Donating YT 14K Club Member | Nasty hookworms!!! Dallas has had yucky poop since Saturday. It was pretty runny. He'd poop several times a day in the house. Then, I noticed yesterday that he had bloody jello type poop. I got a stool sample to take to the vet which only cost $8. Turns out, Dallas had hookworms. I asked how he got them and and the vet said it could be from direct contact from another dog. My dogs stay home and aren't exposed to other people's animals. My only guess is that he got them from all the rains we've been having and eating grass and my poor plants that he likes to rip out of the ground. What is your take on this? Anyway, got pills for everyone (fur wise) in the house and am wiping everything down with Clorox clean up spray. Don't want to take any chances.

| I was just learning about worms in my vet assistant class today. Hookworm larvae can penetrate through the skin or be ingested. If your dog is on a lawn that has larvae, it can easily pick them up.

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Well, you already know about Tatum and her Coccidia - and my vet and I think that she got it from all this NASTY RAIN as well So glad that you got Dallas on some meds though girl - I'm sure he will be fine in NO TIME!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i agree, he probably picked them up outside from another animal that got in the yard (wild or domestic) Or because the rain washed it in. Are your dogs on a monthly heartworm pill? Interceptor protects against three intestinal parasites and adult hookworms is one of them (others being whips and rounds). Heartguard Plus also treats hooks and whips. If your dogs are on these meds and he got the hooks then you can write to the company and tell them. They will pay for treatment most likely (if you purchased said products from your vet)

| How weird! Daisy's been sick (cleared up today) with diarhea all week too! I've been yelling at hubby about taking his "infested dirt tracking shoes" off before he comes in the house!! Glad all is well now with Dallas! Must be something from YT!!! :P

| Luigi had hookworms as well when I first got him. Vet told me it couldve been from the mother or they can definitely get it from soil. The meds seem to work well, depending on how severe the hookworms are (a lot or little amount). But it'll go away! Just keep at it with the meds! I thought Luigi's would never go away, but after 2 wks, they were gone =) Good luck!
