| Homemade Food That's "hard," not soft?? I've been told that Yorkies should eat kibble ("hard" food) because it's better for them and their teeth. I've seen some recipes for homemade food, but the food is all soft. Is there a recipe for a healthy homemade kibble? |

| Let me rephrase this. I'm looking for a DRY dog food - something that I don't have to refrigerate and can take with me when traveling. |

| 2 best raw freeze-dried foods Needing hard kibble to clean teeth is simply false. Brush your baby's teeth at least 3 times per week with Petzlife. For convenience, I use Stella and Chewy's Freeze-Dried Raw. I've researched O'Paws (Oma's Pride) Freeze Dried, also, and it appears very good from a knowledgable company. | I don't think that there is much research about hard food cleaning a dog's teeth. I guess it could help, but then, who really knows? Brushing your dog's teeth or using Petzlife is a much better option. Ellie has periodontal disease and she gets soft food only (with some hard treats). Her teeth are brushed daily and we use something called OraVet on them. She got to skip her six month dental because of how good her teeth look.

| Brushing the dogs teeth is very beneficial. You should also be giving them a good beef femur or knuckle bone to chew on as well. |

| Its a myth that kibble cleans teeth, if you ate nothing but cookies would you still brush your teeth? |

| I don't know. I'm still not convinced... I watched a show on TV a while back where they had been doing tests with LARGE chunks of kibble (for bigger dogs) and they found that those dogs had cleaner teeth who ate the larger bites. I guess cause they actually had to CHEW them instead of snarfing them down. But - brushing is important no matter what you feed them. |

| The hard food is probably not only meant to keep the teeth clean, but STRONG as well. My dentist told me that eating things that are hard to chew (like apples, beef jerky, etc.) is what keeps the teeth strong. I think that could be applied to doggies as well.

| But is there a recipe, whether it's soft or dry, that you can travel with and not have to refrigerate? |
