My furkids Donating Member | fat free/low fat treats?? Sadie and Lille graduated from puppy K last night!! YAY!! Well, the trainer had us bring treats they normally wouldn't get so, I boiled some chicken breast..O..M..G...!! I think Sadie has put on a pound in the 6 weeks of class! I can't believe it! Of course she isn't fat by any means but you can certainly tell she has put on weight...I can just barely feel her ribs! I am continuing training them at home but, need a treat that isn't going to pork them out! I was thinking maybe plain cheerios? Do any of you have any other suggestions? Thanks everyone!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy just finished clicker training for puppies and now we are going to puppy II class in two weeks. I was using the Natural Balance logs cut into slices and then cut those slices into tiny, tiny pieces and that worked and Izzy didn't gain anything. But now I found Yorkie Yummies from Chattiesmom and those are even smaller and I'm going to use those for our next class session. I was also told my our trainer not to feed Izzy dinner the night of class since the reward treats would be her dinner. I also did that on the days we practices our sessions. I also used Cheerios and frozen peas and that works too but only use those treats when I'm training at home. Good luck on the training.

| Plain cheerios are great, and so are small pieces of baby carrots, bananas, peeled/seeded apples, and cheese. Emma and Milli also LOVE frozen peas (yes, still frozen), and pieces of whole wheat pasta! They also really like Itty Bitty Buddy Biscuits, by Cloud Star, which are really small all natural treats, and they're cute-shaped like little gingerbread men! I get them at PetSmart. They come in Peanut Butter, Sweet Potato, Molasses, Chicken and Vegetable, and Mint flavors!

| You might not believe this, but Spike will work for his regular kibble!! Whenever we go to obedience class, I take a bag of his regular dry dog food and use it as treats. He performs exactly the same whether I give him a treat or a kibble, so I figured I might as well give him his regular food since it's more healthy for him. He does like carrots, though! |

My furkids Donating Member | Thanks everyone! I wouldn't feed the girls before school but they would eat when they got home. I guess I should have picked up their kibbles. They do love the cheerios and those are probably less in fat than most other treats. I used to free feed but, now that Sadie and porked a little bit, I have started picking up the food when they are done (if there is any left) and, I don't leave it down at night anymore. Hopefully this will do the trick.
