| Neuter or not? My 2 yr. old, Shankly, has taken to wetting on our bed. He has not done this very many times, but just the same, it smells bad. We scolded him and let him know this was not a very good thing to do. My question is: at his age, does neutering make a difference and will it affect his gregarious personality? I have to admit, the reason I never did it when he was younger is that I didn't want him sedated. |

| I think it helps, and maybe a brush up on potty training.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Yes!!! Neuter him!! Definitely if you have dogs it your neighborhood neutering will stop the marking! I'm going to get my 1 1/2 year old neutered (It'll cost me $250) because he keeps marking our furniture and his behavior is different. My vet said that this will really help out and that I should get him neutered if I'm not going to breed him. |

| If you are not using him for breeding, then I would recommend a visit to the vet for surgery. Also, you mentioned smell and perhaps his urine needs to be checked for bacteria. Good luck.

| Yes, I would! I would neuter him. Don't know that it would change his character much and just a good thing to do to any dog that is not for breeding! JMO

| Neutering would more than likely help, it can be a dominance thing. Also its best not to scold him because sometimes they see it as them being scolded for peeing rather than actually where he peed so it could make him afraid to pee in front of you in the future. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | is he wetting the bed by accident or on purpose? if its by accident then perhaps he has a UTI or has just forgotten his potty training at night. If its on purpose then yes i think neutering should help, however, you should be aware that there is a chance it may not work. He's 2 years old and has already formed male habits so there is a chance that even after neutering he may still mark.

| Thank you for your answers. I didn't want to neuter him because of the reasons I listed above. My husband, however, wants him neutered. I don't know whether he did it because of an accident or marking, but I believe it was an accident. I guess we shouldn't have scolded him, but since then he is still peeing outside rather confidently. However, I just took him outside for his morning walk and after we were finished, we came back in and he continued to whine. That was unusual behaviour for him. It was a real long walk this morning and by the time I brought him back up, he was 'dry' from peeing. Other than that, his behaviour and eating habits are fine. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Neutering/Spaying doesn't change their personality. It will change their bad behavior. If there is a really bad smell like one other poster said he might have an infection so it might be good to check and if nothing then go ahead and schedule his neuter while you are there.
