Yorkie Yakker | Yorkie's weight Hi, every experienced yorkie owner, I would like to seek your opinion about Yorkie's weight. My 4-month yorkie is already 6 and 1/2 pound. Does she have a chance of staying within 10 pound as an adult? She is not being overfed, the vet can still feel her rib cage easily. Her parents are 7 and 8 poundish yorkies. She is not a mix breed, because both parents are AKC registered. The vet said she is just a bigger yorkie. I really hope she can at least stay within 10 pounds. I understand "within 8 pound" is the most ideal. Any thoughts?

| well... hard to say.... a general rule is double their 3 month weight... but even then... you need to know what their grandparents weighted to get a better idea.... however she would still slow WAY down in the nex month or two and stay right where she is.. each pup is SO different... do you know how other dogs are for weight in her litter??? but that being said, is she happy.. healthy ??? who needs more |

| My yorkie weighs a whopping 15 pounds! He's not overweight, he's just a big yorkie! Maybe your yorkie will be just a bigger yorkie too. I personally am really happy that my Snooki is bigger; I can play with him without worrying too much if I'm too rough on him.

Yorkie Yakker | Yorkie's weight Hi, That's the advantage my friend told me about having a bigger yorkie ... you don't have to worry so much when they by accident get in your way. Wow, your 13 pound yorkie is quite big. I will have trouble holding a big one. My yorkie came from a littler of two. She has a brother. I don't know how much he weighs now, since the breeder already found him a new home. And I don't know how much the grandparents weigh either. Just like you said, being healthy and happy is the most important thing for the puppy, and definitely for me as well. It's just ... a smaller one seems so cute, my other yorkie, who is 2 weeks younger, weighs about 3 and 1/2 pound, and she looks very cute. Every friend seems to like her better as compared to my bigger yorkie.

| My Piper's 4 years old and weighs 6.5 lbs, while Pennys six months old and weighs 2.5 lbs. I'm not sure how big she'll get, but to tell the truth I like them a little on the bigger side. I don't think they have quiet as many health issues.

| Hi, my yorki is 12lb and his vet says he is not fat cause he can still feel his ribs. he says that my yorki is just buffed!!!!! Maybe cause he ate royal canin yorki food( it has lots of protein?). But anyway I think yorkis just like people can be different size. |

| I guess the biggest thing is to purchase a dog from an experienced breeder who has the mother and father on site and that has information on the grandparents. This will give you a better estimate of what your puppy will weigh as an adult. Or your second option would be to purchase a puppy that is a little older - four months to six months. Usually by six months their growing starts to slow. Of course not many of us know all of this information when we purchase our puppies (at least I didn't). My first was about the same weight as yours at 4 months and as a two year old adult she is about 9 - 10 pounds. She is solid muscle. My second is a whopping 3 and a half pounds at almost a year old. |

Yorkie Yakker | Yorkie's weight It sounds like you are going to have a bigger yorkie as well. Your yorkie is about the same weight as mine. Is your other dog a yorkie as well? the 20 lbs one? I understand how you feel, I want a smaller dog as well, this way, you can just scoop him/her up, easy to leave on your lap, so cute!

Yorkie Yakker | Yorkie's weight Penny is going to be even smaller than Piper then. Piper's weight is absolutely great weight. Our family went by the pet store the other day. They have a 3-4 month yorkie for sale, it is so petite and they are asking for $3,200. that's crazy!! I guess the smaller the yorkie puppy is, the more expensive they sell it out there. My breeder asked for 1,200 for my smaller yorkie, 1,100 for my bigger one. (I ended up having a 200 hundred off discount when I got two.) When I asked her why the second one is 100 less, she said because she is bigger.

I never thought of asking about the grandparents. I know I could have been more informed back then. My breeder is an ok breeder, she only had one-two years experience of breeding yorkies. Getting an older puppy is also a great idea, even the one that has been spayed already. Now I have to think about spaying two puppies soon! (big cost! don't know if I should go for all the options the vet suggested.) I hope my bigger puppy can stay within 10 lbs like yours, knowing you had the same experience. Your second one is so tiny, must be super cute. I love all the yorkie photos people post on YT. They are all so lovely!!!

| zeus is 8 months and 8 pounds. He is very skinny he eats the right amount and stuff but he has some LONG LEGS he is pure both parent registered but i'd love him 25 lbs if he was healthy. Dont worry about what the number is worry about weather or not he's( or she) is healthy! Trust me zeus may not be 4lbs but everyone still finds him adorable |
