| Sorry to be a pest.... ...and I really feel that I am being one. MacKenzie, who got flown in to us on Friday (don't ask!) went to the vet on Saturday where she was diagnosed as suffering from both worms and Coccidia. They administered 1 cc of STrongid-t while we were at the vet, and set her home on Albon (for the next 10 days). My question is whether either/both of these medications should be causing her to have diarrhea? I know the Coccidia, if left untreated, can cause a lot of intestinal damage resulting in diarrhea. I also know that when we went into the vet that first day it was with a formed stool sample. Since then, however, her poops are really soft and mushy...not watery, but definately verging thereon. I really am sorry to be a pest, but she's just so darned little. I'm scared to death that something can/will get out of control before we can catch it. (I really am a "responsible puppy parent"...not at all the type who'd put a puppy on an airplane for 9 hours in 90 degree heat...with two changes of plane!) Thanks for your input. BTW, on the positive side, she did eat an EXCELLENT breakfast this morning!!! I was so happy to see that. (Especially since she HATES/won't consume Nutrical...the finall salvation of the weak and small.......) Last edited by Figment713; 06-13-2005 at 03:11 AM. |

| Figment: Don't ever feel like you are being a pest! Being a new parent to a yorkie isn't without worry and with all your pup has gone through it is only natural that you will worry. The good members here at YT will not think you are being a pest! They will rally around you, give you a hug and relieve some of the stress you're going through. Just as with any regiment of medication, symptoms may appear to worsen in the beginning until the pup has a few days of albon in its system. Make sure you offer water at all times and you'll be alright. Cooper didn't like nutrical either when I gave it to him the first two times. After that, I couldn't get some on my fingers fast enough for him! Cooper was a hearty eater though . . . he really didn't need it . . . I was just worried about him since he was only 1.1# when I got him. He's never had an episode of low blood sugar. Good luck . . . just remember . . . you ARE doing well! Come for a hug anytime! {{{{{HUGS}}}}} Lisa

| Aww it sounds like you have had a tough time of it.The drugs SHOULD work pretty fast like Villette and Lisa said. It is so scary when they are that little and not feeling good. I have never had a pup with coccidia but my little one contracted giardia(another parasite) from something in the woods when he was younger, within 2 days the diahrrea had stopped and he was back to normal. As long as she is eating and drinking well you sound like you are on the right track to having a happy healthy puppy soon |

| Don't beat your self up! Good luck and hope little one feels better. I would however call the person you got the pup from and inform them of these health conditions, especially if the vaccine info indicated that puppy has been wormed. |
