| Throwing up question? I didn't want to post this in the sick/injured forum because on all accounts, Bella is acting perfectly normal. This all started Thursday morning, I gave Bella her normal treat of a carrot (she gets mini-baby carrots). Within an hour of eating it, she threw it back up. I thought maybe she just ate it too fast (as she normally does with EVERYTHING she eats) and it didn't sit right. She was fine the rest of the day, ate and played (and pottied) normally. Then Friday morning, she threw up her food & carrot that she had eaten an hour or so before. AGAIN, she acted fine all day and we just chalked it up to maybe her playing too rough on a full tummy & it being so hot. She was fine the ENTIRE weekend, NO throwing up. Then Monday, in the afternoon, she starts hacking again and this time it looks to be bile and a leaf. but AGAIN she acts normally, NOTHING wrong with her (she eats and everything the rest of the day, no throwing up). Yesterday, she went ALL DAY without throwing up....then it was about 415pm and she started hacking. She threw up a small amount of bile along with some sticky, gel-y looking strip (couldn't tell if it was grass or a green bean). Called the vet and they said that it didn't seem to be anything to be alarmed about if she was acting normal (which she practically mauled me to play after she threw up yesterday, I had the teeth marks to prove she was fine!), but if it continued to bring her in. I'm just racking my brain trying to think why she's throwing up. Why it's once a day & she isn't acting sick. She didn't throw up at all on Saturday or Sunday, which bewilders me even more. She always scarfs her food down and any treats she's given (which are usually just baby carrots & cheerios), she potties normally, she plays like she never runs out of energy... it's just this one problem of her randomly throwing up once and then being fine. The vet's office said it could be the heat, which I know yesterday and Monday we spent most of the day in our family room which is fairly big so it has a harder time cooling properly than the rest of the house. This is a GOOD animal hospital, so I trust them....they have taken care of Bella since we brought her home at 8 weeks. She's 1 1/2 years old now. Sorry this is so long. I just wondered if anyone else has been experiencing anything like this? Either currently, or in the past?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm....odd indeed. Given her stools are normal and her appetite is good, it doesn't sound too concerning. I'm thinking that since she is eating a few goofy things here and there - a leaf here, a gooey strip there - she may create a bit of a funky stomach for herself that takes a bit to resolve. I know sometimes my Wylie will have some on-off vomiting for a few days, suddenly, and we're mystified - then he's fine. I think he must get into something outside and it continues to irritate his tummy (creating too much acid etc) for a while. Wish I could be of more help!

| Try giving her very soft foods for a couple of day to let the stomach rest. Something has upset her for sure. Try just white rice and either cooked ground beef or chicken. Nothing raw yet. |

| Do you have central air and run it on the weekends when you are home with them and not during the week? If that is the case maybe it is the heat. Are there plants she might be getting into? |

| This sounds very similar to what I went through with Prince. It seemed to start just out of the blue and for no apparent reason. He wasn't eating different food or on any new mediations or anything. Prince used to throw up a lot - multiple times some days. Sometimes he threw up when he first got up in the morning, sometimes it was in the middle of the day and sometimes right after he ate. Prince almost always acted normal just beforeand just after throwing up. Sometimes he would eat it again - GROSS! The vet said he was probably allergic to something in his food. He was put on a prescription food. It seemed to help a little but not much. The vet said a dog's stomach is designed to purge anything that is upsetting it. He said it was probably nothing to worry about but he told me to take Prince into the office as soon as it happened if it was possible. He wanted to take his temperature and see how he was acting as close to the episode as possible. We made 5 trips to the vet in one week - that was the week Prince bit the vet! Apparently he got tired of the thermometer being stuck "there". I switched the dogs over to raw and home cooked meals almost 3 months ago. He has only thrown up twice since then. After all of the research my Mom and I have on dog food and the improved health of her dogs since switching to raw and homecooking, I'm convinced it was the cr*p in the dog food that was making him throw up. Even Angel has more energy and spunk (I prefer to call it attitude) since switching. |

| have her blood tested it would be smart to take her to the vet and have her lipase level tested, just in case she is having a pancreatitis attack. my baby bruiser had a pancreatitis attack last year and we almost lost him. the sooner you get treated the better. it is worth the cost of the blood test to find out for sure... -cortney and bruiser |
