| Tapeworms again? Gizmo was treated four weeks ago for tapeworms with a praziquantel tab at the vet. I had seen them in his stool and the vet tested a fecal sample. We treated the whole house for fleas and have kept him indoors since. I haven't seen any signs of more fleas. Two weeks ago he had a treatment with Frontline (flea preventative) but the vet saw no new fleas. He also had his heartworm treatment at the same time. This morning I noticed what appear to be new tapeworm segments in his stool!! Is this just still clearing out of his system or could he have them again? Maybe the meds haven't been effective? Am I losing my mind? (Okay, yes on the losing my mind part! LOL) Any suggestions would be helpful.

| i know when mine at tapeworms they got a pill then and then 3 weeks later.... you can also buy that stuff with outa vet, much cheaper and just give it to them your self i dont, for puppies i recommed doing when you first get them and again at like 5-6months old, and for adults once a year as a preventative, they say you can only get it from fleas, but none of mine have fleas and they stay on frontline i buy tradewinds tapewormer medicine on ebay its anywhere between $5-10.00 you can buy it at some pet stores buts it cost more Good luck |

| I think the original treatment only doesn't affect the eggs. So you need to treat again three weeks later.

| Okay...grrr (not at you!) Calling the vet now and wondering why they said this would clear him up and did NOT mention another treatment. Oh duh...I threw the stool sample away!

| The vet's office said that the one pill should have taken care of it, BUT that the lifecycle from flea ingestion to seeing the segments is about 30 days. But it still should have taken care of it. I am going to pick up a pill in a little bit. They said I did not need to bring him in. This is confusing!?? I guess I need to treat his environment some more, but there has been no evidence of new fleas.

| They look like little wiggly grains of long rice. You don't see them every poop. I heard you might only see them once a day. And yes, I would say they look kinda like skinny maggotts (sp?)

| i called the vets. they do not think it is tapeworms since we do not have fleas nor do my dogs. but just in case, they want me to bring in a sample tomorrow. it just makes me feel dirty thinking about it.
