| it sounds like a food allergy.. when dogs have an allergy they tend to bit and chew at their paws. What are you feeding her?? Corn, wheat and chicken are common allergies in dogs. |

| my yorkie mika does this, and she does have allergies to certain foods, so it's possible that your maltese is just allergic. try switching his food to something without corn, it worked for us

My Lil Man! Donating Member | My yorkie licks and nibbles at his feet. Could it really be from his food? I feed him Natural Balance Potato and Duck formula..its an allergy formula so I would think its suppose to be good for dogs with allergies. Whatcha think?? |

| My TJ does this in the middle of the night - He eats Raw Frozen Food, and no grains at all. So I don't believe he has a food allergy. The Vet says he has OCD problems. I agree, b/c TJ can also go to town of my hubby's pillow and my hubby's scalp (weird, I know) - he just licks and licks, etc... The nail biting pisses me off though. I get TJ's nail cut every 3 weeks, and it seems that he really seems to be more nail biting active just before that 3rd weekend, so maybe I have to go every 2 weeks. Also, I have noticed that if he happens to have 'pee' on his paws, he tends to lick them clean and then bite his nails if they are long enough. So now, in the middle of the night if I take him to pee, I stick his paws under the running water with a tiny bit of gentle shampoo and then just towel dry quickly. It's a pain in the a** - but it does seem to help |
