Strange behavior for my little guy... I'm hoping someone can shed some light on some strange behavior my yorkie has shown twice in the last couple of days. First off, a little background info for everyone: his name is Riley, he's 6 months old, weighs 10lbs 8oz, eating and drinking fine, going to the bathroom just fine. He's had all of his shots, he's been neutered already, hasn't been sick at all since the day we got him. He eats Science Diet puppy hard food and sometimes we'll mix in Science Diet canned puppy food (Chicken and Rice, I think). The first time he acted strange was on Sunday night, right around the time when he would start falling asleep. He started running into the bathroom, trying to get into the tub. Then he would run out into his crate, lay there for a few minutes and then back into the bathroom. Sometimes he'd just lay down by the toilet and then other times he'd actually try to get into the tub. Everytime he'd run back and forth between the bathroom and his crate, though, he'd run right up against the kitchen cabinets with his head and tail down like he did something bad. We were thinking that maybe he was overtired. Also, a little while before all of this, he went to go leap off the side of an armchair and he was grabbed quickly. We thought maybe he was hurt or he thought he did something bad. Couldn't make heads or tails of it. Eventually, we just put him to bed in his crate, he went to sleep and was fine the next day (Monday). Now today was the second time. Basically, Riley was sleeping and was let out of his crate to go to the bathroom. He was just going to be put back in but the person who let him out couldn't put him back right away. Next thing he knows, Riley's doing the exact same thing as Sunday night. At one point, Riley was being held and he was desperately trying to get off the sofa and run into the bathroom. While he was being held, he started to quiver like he was going to throw up but he didn't. A little bit after this, he was put back in his crate and went to sleep. I started thinking today that maybe he was warm and wanted to cool off in the tub. I am aware of low blood sugar in these little guys and now I'm thinking maybe when he's tired, his sugar is dropping a bit and making him act a little loopy. What does everyone think? Any advice or suggestions? Please let me know. Thanks! Last edited by djs2053; 06-27-2007 at 10:50 AM.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmmm. Well, my Marcel runs around a LOT (back and forth) when he's about to poo. Sometimes he'll do it, but then doesn't poo - so then I wonder if he's having gas or digestion stuff. So, I wonder if Riley is feeling an urge to poo or gas or something. When does this happen in relation to his pooping, his peeing, and his eating?

Going to the bathroom doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. Riley does what I call his poopy-dance before he goes. He circles and circles before going. He hasn't done it lately but when he was younger, he would sometimes even cry a little before going. So far, though, I haven't seen any correlation with this behavior lately and going to the bathroom. As for food, he's usually eaten long before he act like this. The only common denominator so far is that he's tired when he does this.

Best thing I can say is contact your vet. There could be something internal that you could be missing!

I wouldn't think it was low blood sugar. He's a good size, big actually and the bigger ones don't seem to have the same problems as the little ones. Sometimes Buddy does something like that out of the blue. I tell he he has pepper up his a --. He'll start running around like a nut for no reason. Then poops himself out and plopps on the floor. I'm sure he's fine. They can do silly things at times that have no explanation. Post some pictures. I would love to see him. My Buddy was 8lbs at 6months and today he is 15.5lbs. Healthy as a horse, thank heavens. I am sure your baby is fine.

Jake usually goes through a running spurt right before he goes to bed. He starts running all around...really FAST, and does this for just a couple minutes, then he's ready to go to sleep lol. Try closing the bathroom door when he does this just to see what happens.
