Default Active Care Healthy Joint Formula

Has anyone tried (or does anyone feed) Breeder's Choice - Active Care Healthy Joint Formula?

I was doing some research for joint supplements and stumbled on this. I looked in to Missing Link and other supplements. I was talking to one lady at the feed store, and asked if she had any experience with any of it. She admitted she had never tried Missing Link or the others I was looking at, but she said she DOES feed Active Care. We talked about it, I read the ingredients, and pondered it. They offer treats and food for healthy joints. The lady said that within a few days, her dog was acting like a puppy, and she was so impressed that she switched and still feeds it to him.

Right now, all my dogs are on Canidae, which I feel is one of the best foods available. I'm hesitant to switch to something without being 100% convinced.

Now here's what's convincing me. They gave me samples of both the food and the treats. I have been feeding small amounts of the food and offering the treats, hoping to see some improvement in Pixie. She's had surgery on 2 of her legs and another coming soon. She just turned a year old and has the mentality of a puppy, but she has the body of an old brood.

So after trying the samples... I do think Pixie may be moving easier, but what really caught me offguard is this: BOGEY is acting like a freakin puppy! He's feeling so good, he's just about driving us nuts.

So... has anyone else had any experiences with this food?

I cannot believe that absolutely *no one* has responded at all! Has no one even tried it?

I'm thinking seriously about going ahead and switching over. Pixie and Bogey are both feeling absolutely WONDERFUL and acting like hyperactive puppies. They drive us a little nutty, but I think it's awesome that they are feeling *this* good, ya know?

Anyway, I'm about out of samples, so I think I'm going to go buy a bag of the food.

If anyone else wants to try it, I would at this point recommend it... I would not however recommend the treats - Pixie, Bogey, and Cinnamon all refuse to eat them. They ate them the first day, then it's been downhill from there. Now they won't even take them from me. They do however come RUNNING when it's time for the food.

Well, I did it. I went and bought a bag of the food... it's in my car now. I'm going to probably just keep mixing for a while though. I have lots of Canidae still, and I'm just a little attached to Canidae

But I do think I won't be buying any more Canidae.... And if you buy the 15 lb bags, these are actually WAY cheaper than Canidae! I was shocked. Still interested in hearing how anyone else has done with this food. I've recommended it to a couple people (including Angel - I think it would be really good for her!)

We are loving this food! It is absolutely excellent. Everyone is doing well and moving around great. I've been feeding a mix of Canidae and the new food to Bogey and Cinnamon, but with Pixie's latest surgery, I've been feeding her strictly the new food. Everything seems to be going well with it so far

I am looking to switch from Bil-Jac. Where do you get this food?

I am in Fort Worth - I got it from Marshall Grain (a feed store)... although that is also the ONLY place here locally that sells Canidae... so it may be difficult to find.

Hmmm...very interesting. I was looking to supplement Carley, her back knees are grade 2 and she had a car accident that further injured her back leg and pelvis. While she is all recovered now, and is back to her rough and tumble self...I do worry about her future as she ages. The vet said most likely she could have arthritis and other issues later in life. Hmm....very interesting. Did you buy the lamb or chicken formula? Anyone else know anything about this food? Any other comments? I currently feed Sold Gold and Natural Balance Rolls. I also use Missing Link.

Yeah, I had the same thing. Pixie was doing *ok* ya know? But she's had surgery on 3 of her legs, one of them twice now. She's doing well, but then again, she is going to have lots of arthritis, which is why I was looking around to help her before she gets bad. I figure while she's still recovering from her last surgery is the best time to start... before the pain starts.

And a 15 lb bag of it was $19.99 (and I had a coupon for $3 off, too!) while on the Canidae, I was paying $26.99 for the same 15 lb bag. The smaller bags are priced about the same, but if you buy in bulk, that is a big difference for us!

How is everyone doing with this dog food? I am thinking of mixing it with mine. They eat CA natural, my shepard is 11 yrs and Peanut is only 1yr. I thought it would be good to give a little joint support.

I did a search for stores on their site and it looks like Petco carries it.

I'm not sure I want my dogs all acting like puppies and going nuts!!

Everyone is doing really awesome. There is a HUGE difference in them between when they've eaten Canidae and when they've had this new food. I'm kinda offering both until the Canidae runs out (another couple of days), and you can really, really tell who's had what to eat. I'm mostly putting the Canidae in the kitchen for snacks - they eat in the bedroom where I offer the new food. You can tell who didn't have dinner and chose to "snack" instead.

We've had to start getting on to Bogey for all his hyperactiveness... but for a dog who's done nothing but lay around and want to be pet ever since we've gotten him, that's a big change. Pixie had knee surgery on July 5th - on both back knees - you wouldn't believe it. It looks like I just shaved her rear for the fun of it - she's running and playing and taking walks with everyone else. I'm really impressed with this food.

I know it sounds silly, but it's the best thing that's ever happened to my dogs, I think. Not only that, but they love it, too. I would suggest giving it a try and seeing what it does... I can't promise you'll have the same results, but I can tell you how well we've done with it.

I'm not buying any more Canidae when I run out, but I do still firmly believe that Canidae is a great food. If anything happens with our "new food" then we will be back on Canidae in a heartbeat. But for now, this seems to be working wonders on my babies.

Glad to hear both Pixie and Bogey are doing well with their new food. I can honestly say I have not tried it, nor have I heard of it, but the results you are seeing seems to be amazing...sure hopes it continues.

Forgot to mention: I have been feeding it to Cinnamon, too (my daughter's dog), but she's about 4-5 months old and I really haven't seen much change from the hyperactive puppy that she already is LOL

So are you feeding the lamb and rice or chicken and rice? I am going to give it a try. Thanks
