| People Food Hey everyone. I got my baby three days ago, and the breeder was VERY adamant about making sure that we did not, under ANY circumstances feed our Yorkie people food. He supplied us with a couple of jars of Gerber baby hot dogs, and said do not give my baby anything else. He swore up and down that giving your Yorkie people food will cut his life in half. and now I'm reading on hear about people giving their Yorkie's peanut butter, cheerios, and all kinds of other treats. Is this okay for him? I've been telling my other half that its okay, but he's so nervous after waht the breeder drilled into us!! |

| most people food is very bad but I have to admit, mine get it sometimes. just a bite. NEVER, EVER any pork products. I nearly killed my little stud when he was ten weeks old giving him deli ham. Only a fourth of a slice gave him severe pancreatitiss. now, as far as the baby food. That's alright BUT if that baby was old enough to leave his momma, he needs to be on dry kibble of some sort. |

| You should find an excellent puppy food brand . Human food given as a regular diet is not good . |

| I've been feeding my dogs and foster dogs real food for over 50 years and have never had a problem. My dogs live very long and healthy lives. I have a Chihuahua right now who is 15 years 5 months that have never eaten anything else but "real" food and she has never had any health problems and has never been sick in her entire life! Feed free range ground meat (cooked) ground lamb (also cooked) mixed with brown rice, lentils and split peas cooked together, drained, rinsed in cold water, then grate some carrots. Mix together and freeze in Zip loc freezer bags. Each bag should have 2 and 1/2 cups of the mixture. Give 1/4 for breakfast with some steel cut oatmeal and give some for dinner with steamed broccoli. There are many things you can quickly make and feed also. Please don't be afraid to feed your baby the best possible food, and that is "real" food. |

| I also feed my dogs human foods Your breeder probably told you that so that you don't feed your baby something that causes pancreatitis. If you're going to feed people food, just make sure you do the research. No grapes, raisins, onion, no seeds, deli meat, pork, turkey skin, etc. My dogs are thriving on people food. I have honestly never seen them healthier... One of my dogs has liver problems, and ever since we switched him to people food, he has been better than ever. If you knew what went into dog food, you would reconsider giving it to them. The thing about feeding people food on a long-term basis is that supplements need to be added to make sure that your dog is getting proper nutrition. But if you're going to feed your dog Dog food, you can definitely give him people snacks. Some safe treats are apples (peeled and cut into small pieces), carrots, watermelon (no seeds), non-fat or low-fat yogurt (good for their tummies, and make sure there are no artificial sweeteners). My dogs get juiced celery or zucchini every morning, 3-4 small meals (right now it's egg, sweet potato, potato, carrots, and green beans for my yorkie and lean ground beef, oats, celery, carrots for my maltese). They get a bit of yogurt and cottage cheese everyday, and have little pieces of apples or watermelon for snacks throughout the day. Read this article...It's lengthy, but very informational http://www.api4animals.org/facts?p=359&more=1 If you decide that you want to feed your dog Dog food, take a look at www.dogfoodanalysis.com and look at the 4 and 5 star foods. These are the foods generally recommended for yorkies.

| I've been home cooking for over a year. There is a difference between feeding table scraps and home cooking. I wouldn't feed the Gerber Baby hot dogs for too long, either. Lots of preservatives. Most of the vet foods and other "prescription" foods contain garbage ingredients. Please read the labels carefully. Many pups are allergic to grains. The protein source should be real meat - no by-products or meal. I just switched from home-cooking to The Honest Kitchen (freeze-dried raw). I would highly recommend this as well. The Embark formula is for all life stages. There are lots of quality foods out there. Do your research and determine which best fits your needs. Good luck and congratulations on your new baby!!!!!

| I feed Izzy real food and some kibble for during the day. I also give him fresh fruits and veggies for snacks and he loves it! Human food is fine for them. Just make sure there is no salt or sugar added and there are some foods that they cannot eat, just like Yorkieluv mentioned. Maybe your vet meant table food? I was told the same thing by other people and found out that the processed foods is what makes them sick. A lot of people were taught that human food is bad when in fact it is better for them than the dog food they sell in the stores. Yorkiedaze is the real food expert, definitely take her advice too! Good luck!

| I hope this helps you......... Hearts United for Animals Box 286 Auburn, NE 68305 402.274.3679I hope this helps found @ Cooking is for the Dogs! Dogs are part of the family and we love to pamper them. Many HUA directors, volunteers and adopters cook for their dogs. Here are a few of our favorite recipes. We think you will discover that cooking for your dogs is not more expensive than quality dog foods, that your dogs will love it, it is as healthy as quality dogs foods and you will enjoy doing something special for your dog. Each of these recipes will feed two medium sized dogs for a week. Curry Fritata 2 dozen brown cage free organic eggs 1 lb Ground turkey (organic is best) 1 lb Fresh or Frozen Peas (Cascade organic are best) 16 oz Grated Cheese (our dogs like Italian blend) 1 Tablespoon Turmeric 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil 1 16 oz package of egg noodles (whole wheat is best) 1/2 cup of soy milk Boil water, add pasta and cook until tender, drain water and add olive oil. Break eggs into large mixing bowl, whip with hand mixer, add soy milk and whip again. Brown turkey, add to egg mixture. Add peas cheese and turmeric to egg mixture. Add cooked noodles. Mix all ingredients together. Pour into large rectangular glass baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done in the middle about 45 minutes. Warm before serving. Our dogs love the taste of turmeric and it helps relieve joint inflammation. Turkey Casserole 2 labs ground turkey (organic is best) 1 container of tofu 2 lbs fresh or frozen peas and carrots (Cascade organic are best) 2 heads broccoli cut into florets 1 16 oz. can cooked sweet potatoes (or buy organic sweet potatoes, boil and dice them yourself) 1/2 cup Olive Oil 2 16 oz. packages of egg noodles (whole wheat is best) 1 tablespoon cropped garlic Optional: 1 dozen brown cage free organic egg, boiled, peeled, cubed Brown turkey. Cut tofu into cubes and mix into cooking turkey so that the tofu takes on the flavor of the turkey. Boil water and add noodles. Cook until almost tender and add cut broccoli. Cook until noodles and broccoli are tender. When done, drain water and add olive oil liberally. Add all ingredients into large container. Mix until evenly distributed. Serve warm. You could sprinkle a little cheese on top before serving if you wanted to really spoil your dogs! Some of our dogs don't like the taste of garlic so try it and see if your dogs do or not. Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Dog "kibble" is made of "HUMAN" food (meat, veggies, grain) - it's just processed to death and made into nuggets. So, really, feeding fresh human food is way better than preserved, processed food. Keep in mind that "kibble" is an invention - animals always ate "real" food (whether in the wild or at home) up until some brilliant marketer decided to make a convenient dog food. And it was brilliant - bc now most people think that REAL food is bad and kibble is better. Genius, huh? Real food is best for your baby - you just have to educate yourself. CONGRATS on your new baby!

| I also feed mine human food. But it isn't a very long list. I feed them eggs, cheese, carrots, peas, ground beef, and chicken breasts. I usually mix these in with their kibble. I know many people here don't feed kibble at all and solely homecook. Actually I wish that I could do that, but at this point it isn't realistic with my lifestyle. |
