| Is she eating enough? Hi guys, I have a question about Sadie's appetite... She's 8 months old, I think probably between 3.5 and 4 pounds, and she seems really healthy and playful...my question is, is she eating enough? She gets Royal Canin Puppy Formula (we tried other brands but she ate even LESS on them), and I honestly think she's only eating between 3 and five tablespoons a day. I know she's tiny but I keep thinking that can't NEARLY be enough, even though she seems really healthy and loves to play and run around all over the place. I feed her in the morning and it's almost like she won't eat all day, then at around 8 or 9 at night she's looking for her food (I try not to free feed, but since she's eating so little, I don't want to starve the poor thing, either). I don't want to be a bad mommy! Do you think this is enough? How can I get her to eat more, if it isn't? Help!

| Max doesn't eat much either and he's 8 pounds, active, healthy, etc. I asked my vet. She said not to worry about it as long as he's acting okay. I buy very healthy treats for him which I give him a couple of times a day so that I know he's getting the nutrients he needs.

| Well ahe ia a little dog, which equals a small tummy! I am sure she is eating enough otherwise she wouldn't have the energy to play! Just leave her food out and make sure knows where it is, and stop worrying! Between both of my Yorkies (which are both larger than yours) they eat about 1/2-3/4 of food a day! They are both healthy and happy.

| I read in a yorkie book to feed 1 tablespoon of dry food for every pound the dog weighs twice a day. For example: 4 pound dog gets 4 tablespoons of food twice a day. This equals a 1/2 cup of food per day. This is a good starting point you can adjust as needed for your dogs needs.

| My Layla is sooooo skinny... ...so I worry about her a lot. But she's also high energy all the time. I often feed her extra food in the hopes of fattening her up. Many people have told me after getting spayed or after she turns 2 yrs old, she will start to slow down and lose all her puppy exuberance, but I'm not so sure... I use Nutri Cal to supplement her diet & now I am considering feeding her separately from her brother Rylie. He weighs 9 lbs --Layla weighs about 4lbs--and although I've never seen him take food from her, but it can't hurt to try this out for a little while to see if her weight changes.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you tried making it more palatable? You could moisten the kibble w/ water or chicken broth.
