| Need to help a friend's dog - Best treatment for fleas I visited a friend over the weekend and was horrified at what I saw at her house. She has a small pomeranian that is infested with fleas. I told her she has to do something about it to take care of the situation. She said she would do it, but I have a feeling that she is not going to do anything. This has been bothering me so much that I decided to buy the flea treatment and send it to her for her to take care of the dog's problem asap. Please let me know what brand of fleas treament do you recommend. Also, please feel free to share any feedback on how to prevent fleas so that I can try to educate her a bit. Thanks for your help |

| I would wash the dog in dawn dishsoap it will kill the fleas. It doesnt keep new fleas from getting on them so she will still need a flea preventative. I use revolution

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That's TERRIBLE ! Does she know Fleas can KILL A DOG if left untreated ? WHY do people get pets then totally ignore the BASIC Care and needs ? Frontline is a good flea remedy but she's going to need to treat her whole house to get completely rid of them - that's just nasty she didn't treat her pet and home. That poor dog must be miserable. Sorry - I don't want to be rude about your friend but she's not a very nice person letting her dog be riddled with fleas |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ps there is also a pill that will kill BITING Fleas on contact - but she still needs to treat for the eggs they leave. I just don't understand why anyone would know there's even ONE flea on their dog and not treat it right away - THINK of how we feel when bit by a mosquito and times that by THOUSANDS ! It's got to be so awful for the dog getting bit 24 hours a day by these nasty creatures |

| I would tell her to bathe her yorkie in Dawn dishwasher soap, give her a Capstar pill (which will kill all fleas within 10 minutes) and then she needs some Frontline as a preventative and to kill the flea eggs. Then she needs to call an exterminator to come and spray her house. And she needs to wash all bedding (her dogs and her own) in hot water! |

| I sent her an email letting her know that I have not been able to stop thinking about her dog and that she has to take care of him. I told her that he must be in a lot of pain and it is inhumane to allow him to be full of fleas and just seat there and let it happen. She has a two year old boy and I told her that she has to take care of the fleas problem because they can also bite her child. I also told her that fleas carry tons of diseases that are not only bad for dogs but also for humans. She knows how I am with animals and how upsetting this is to me. I am getting my puppy this weekend and I told her that unless she takes care of the fleas and I am never visting her with my puppy. I wish I was closer to her because I will go and take care of the fleas myself... grrrr.. I think it is not only wrong to do that to a pet but it is also nasty to have a dog in the house full of fleas.... just NASTY... How can people live like this..... |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | GOOD FOR YOU !! Maybe search the net and find the grossest links you can on lfeas and see if she gets as disturbed as you are over this problem...it's a BIG problem and really shouldn't be taken lightly. They really can kill her dog not to mention the problems fleas cause in other areas....like TAPEWORMS THIS is a great page to get her started - tell her as long as that poor dog has fleas - SHE HAS WORMS (larvae) in her carpet ! http://www.thepetcenter.com/gen/fleB.html |

| Natural methods that are cheaper. 1) Adding a vitamin B supplement to their food works. 2) Apple cider vinegar added to their food or water works. 3) Lavender oil a few sprinkles in their bed eliminates fleas. 4) A cup or 2 of cool peppermint tea added to your pets bath water will eliminate fleas. 5) Rubbing lemon on them works, or crushed sage. or Revoution works very well.
