Donating YT 11K Club Member | I think the babies are taking away all her calcium. Can you feed the pups yourself, maybe buy the powder so that she can recover, since so much milk is being taken out of her.

| Is your girl running a temp ?? Were all placenta's accounted for ?? Any of her teats red ,Swollen, Hard ?? are the pups gaining weight ?? I would give her Nutrical. I hope she's OK.. Until you get her to the Vets tomorrow. I had a girl that went off her feet for a few days. Vet said to rest her tummy for about 8 hr and them try some light foods. I gave her small amount every few hour of chix broth mixed with a little cream of chix soup. When she seem to be able to hold that down ... I started giving her small amounts of chix, rice and carrot. The following day she started back on regular dog food. also my Vet said I could use pedilite. | Did she eat the placentas..?? I also try to get to them before the female does and throw them away. Sometimes if they eat them it will give them the poops or make them sick. It's still a good idea to get her checked out. I hope all is ok with her. Last edited by yorkiegirl2; 06-10-2007 at 10:04 PM. |

| Hi. I have bred poms and yorkies. My baby just had a litter on the 31st of May. As to what you are saying about your mamma dog...I would say she is very deficient in calcium. It is very important that you get some calcium in her tonight. If you have human calcium try giving her that wrapped up in a piece of cheese or something. Plus you can feed the puppies, just a couple of puppies every couple hours, and allow the rest to feed on her if you can calm her breathing down. In an emergency my vet said to boil milk to feed to the puppies. This can become life threaten for your dog, and if you can not get her breathing under control by giving her extra calcium then you will have to call and make a trip to the vet. Most likely that is what you are going to have to do, plus the vet will have you bottle feed all the puppies for the next couple days if she is really bad.

| well, this was our first littler and we did alot of reading and based on some of the things i read i went ahead and let her eat 1 placenta. i threw the other 2 away. i let her eat it because i read that it had nutritional valur as far as milk production goes. i also gave her a bit of ice cream and we are feeding her puppy food |

| My yorkie whelped 5 pups and ate every single placenta! She did has some loose stools afterwards. I would just encourage her to eat anything with calcium in it. Offer it to her as often as you can, if possible through the night too! If you can get her panting/breathing under control then you may be able to avoid the vet trip and bill! Continue to offer calcium rich foods (low lactose if possible as lactose tends to cause loose stools) everyday until she is done nursing.

| Also try tums! May help to calm her tummy plus give her the extra calcium she needs! I give them to my Yorkie along with yogurt!
