Default Marcel Pawing/Itching Eyes/Sides of Face...Benadryl?

I feel so bad for Marcel. He is so often pawing the sides of his face, or itching the sides - I do think it's allergies (his sneezing and reverse sneezing it more active too). His eyes aren't really watering terribly but the eye/face itching seems to be so irritating to him.

Do you think I should try Benadry? Has anyone else had results w/ this same symptom?

I bought some children's liquid (syrup) Benadryl - how much would I give him if he weighs 2 pounds?

Many thanks!

Omg Itchy scratchy

When diggy was pawing the sides of his face I had a lot of people telling me it was a sign of Liver Shunt of Liver Issue. I have no idea if its true or a thing about allergies. As for Benydryl, I know there was a post about how much to give a baby...Im going to go search for it for you....they had posted dosage by weight. Good luck and Ill post link if I find it.

I thought of this too - he's not head pressing or anything, it truly seems like an itch or irritation. I am having a bunch of blood work done, just to rule it out - but I don't think it's Liver Shunt, knock on wood!

I am willing to bet it is allergies. Try giving him Benedryl and see if it helps. Give 1tsp of the liquid. It will make him sleepy but will hopefully help the itching. My male itches alot, too, but the fleas are horrible here and I think he's allergic to the fleas. Are you sure he doesn't have fleas? It could be just seasonal allergies. All three of my dogs have had bad allergies this spring. They sneeze, watery eyes, reverse sneezing like crazy. My vet said just give Benedryl. It has really helped all three of them.

I think almost every puppy itches.. new things they come in contact with everyday. Armani does it too.. its not head pressing.. just after running around outside he will itch..
SOmetimes randomly

I doubt its Liver Shunt disease

Im sure he just has allergies.

Default Poor Baby!!!

I agree, I think that it is allergies. My Roxee jsut had some blood work done to check for liver or kidney problems and there were none. She has been sneezing more often and scratching at the side of her face. Her eyes were a little watery, but not too bad. There has been no head pressing. I hope that Marcel gets better. Please keep us posted.

You are all so sweet and caring. How would I know if he had fleas? Do you know what I'd look for? I hate seeing this little guys be distracted w/ itching...how miserable!

Kobi has been doing this lately too...licking his paws, scratching his head with his paws or rubbing it on the floor, etc, etc, etc, and I really think it's allergies, but I guess I should have him tested for liver shunt, but I'd be too scared to hear the results........ Good luck with yours and post here and let us know how it's goin

Marcel is still having the issue. I bought some Benadryl but I'm so afraid to use it bc he is only 2 pounds! I wonder why these allergies seem so very rampant in dogs nowadays...

Don't be afraid to use it. You will make him feel so much better! Is it tablet Benedryl or liquid????? If it's liquid, give him a little less than 1tsp. If it's a pill, give him a little less than half a pill.
