| Home cooking questions Okay, I'm having a problem with Jake eating for the first time since I've had him. Most of the problem is due to separation anxiety, which I'm working on. He eats in the morning, but then he refuses to eat later in the day, and I think it's because I'm leaving at 4:00pm to go to work. He won't eat anymore after his morning meal and refuses food until after I get home, which is around 1:00am, and I feel that's way too long for him to go without eating. He isn't alone in the evenings, my hubby is there, but Jake is a big mommy's boy. I have done a little home cooking for him, like scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, and boiled hamburger and, of course, he's much more enthusiastic about eating those things. He will also eat carrots and green beans. So, I really would like to start cooking more for him but want to make sure he gets the proper nutrition. He's almost 11 mos. old. Can someone give me examples of what and how much you feed on a typical day? I just want him to eat!!! TIA |

| The best advice I can give you is to get a good book like Dr. Pitcairn's book. It will explain their dietary needs and needs for certain supplements like calcium so that you can cook for them on a long-term basis My babies get 3-4 small meals per day. In the early mornings, they share a juiced celery stalk or juiced zucchini for breakfast. Then a couple of hours later, they get whatever I have cooked up for them for the two weeks. For my maltese, right now she's eating lean ground beef, oats, and green beans with supplements like bone meal, vitamin e, nutritional yeast, etc. My liver compromised yorkie right now is getting eggs, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans and carrots with supplements added. Then a few hours later they get a snack like apples cut up and peeled or watermelon or a snack like that. A couple of hours later, their meal again. Then for dinner, they get their meal again.

| i also suggest Dr. Pitcairn's book. best money i have ever spent because you can't just feed them whatever. THey need suppliments and a balanced diet and he does all the work for you providing receipes. I make up one of the mixtures he suggested and Layla gets between 1/4 c and 1/2 c of that a day. In the morning Layla gets 1 tbs-ish of yogurt, with her suppliment that Dr. Pitcairn's book suggests you make and she also gets that with about 1 tsp of cottage cheese in late morning. Then early afternoon she gets about 1/3 cup of the food mixture.. she may or may not eat it all.. and then she will get about the same maybe more of it in late afternoon- early evening. |

| Thanks so much! I have just ordered Dr. Pitcairn's book and another one called "Real Dog Food" by Arden Moore. I can't wait to get them. |
