| Using Borax on your pets??? I received an email from one of my homeschool groups and in it, they were talking about using Borax powder not only around the pets bed, carpet, etc. but actually rubbing it on the pet. She was talking about using it on a cat after many uses of store bought items didn't work and treatment caused her cat to get very ill. She said that the Borax worked wonders and they haven't had a problem in years. Has anyone else heard of this??? I knew you could use Borax for roaches/ants/etc, but I thought it was probably pretty potent...........but this lady said it was safe to use around kids and pets. Is this true?? Here is the quote from the email............. Quote:

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmmm. I'm always a bit suspicious/careful about chemicals...but I don't know enough about Borax and its toxicity/sensitivity levels. It may be okay for use in corners, on some furniture (sparingly) - but I could never imagine putting it directly on my baby. I'm sure some smartista knows the answer and will chime in...

Lab animals have shown moderate to significant irritation to a 10% borax/water solution on their skin and it has also been proven to cause testicular atrophy when introduced into their food. Borax is definitely a potent chemical and nothing to use around your babies! Hope I helped a little! | |

| Ok, now I'm questioning the use of Borax as I have read a few different opinions on it. I purchased some to help with the stains in my carpet and then decided to use it in the laundry on my lil ones washable pee pads and a blankie that she had pottied on. I'm wondering is it safe for her to have the blankie in her bed at night and for her to use the pee pads that were washed with borax?

| Don't worry, SweetPea. Items washed in borax and rinsed are fine. The danger is having it in its solid form when your pet can ingest it or get it on their skin. Just be careful with it--it's perfectly safe as a laundry aid! |
