Sad I don't know what to do, what can I do to help him ?

I don't know what to do. My little guy has not been eating all day and tonight he has diarrhea and is throwing up. He has never done this before and I don't know what to do. I will take him to the vet, but I don't think that they are there tomorrow, so what can I do to help him now?

Just for a fast emergency you can give him about a 1/2 tsp. of Pepto Bismol. Also, keep his fluids up. May have to give him some Pedialyte. I use an eye dropper to get the above down. Maggie gets an upset tummy quite often. Her breeder is the one that told me about the Pepto Bismol.

Keep an eye on him, my Bella did the same thing about a month or so ago and become dehydrated. Her's was due to her white blood cell count being off from the bad kennel cough she had. She wound up have to have the bubble of fluids injected on her back to drain through her.

Try some chicken baby food and spoon feed him, I had to do that with Bella too!! What about some peanut butter, or some yogurt?

The most important thing is to keep the little fella hydrated. In March, Toto had what turned out to be a gastrointestinal inflammation and she dehydrated. It happened while we were traveling and we had to find an emergency vet in Kentucky ... we had to force pedialite down her with a syringe all night or else leave her in a strange place hooked up to an IV for her fluids [this absolutely was not an option!]. He gave her a medication called Flagyl for the inflammation and a couple of days later, she was back to normal! Please get him to the vet ASAP ... we were amazed that Toto could dehydrate so quickly because even though she would not eat, she was drinking her normal amount of water! Good luck and please keep us posted.

Sick dog

If he won't take the pepto bismol, which my vet said I could give Max, and is still acting lethargic and vomiting call your vet - they should have an emergency number for the vet on call. I don't want to scare you, but Max just got out of the hospital and was on IV's after dehydration over Memorial Day Weekend. The doctor met me at the office and treated him. Please don't wait. Hope your baby is doing better.

My boy Griffin had similar symptoms about a week ago. Turns out he got into a mushroom growing in the yard that had made him sick. We needed to change to a bland diet of rice and boiled chicken (or find some wet food that is very bland with only rice and chicken and oils as ingredients - California Natural is a good brand). Don't feed very much, just enough so they are not hungry. We also were able to give him Kayopectate (spelling?) to help calm his system. This can be found at a drugstore. Finally, we had to get some prescription antibiotic at the vet. Once we did all of these things he was fine within 2 days. I would reduce the food and change to bland food and give pepto or kayopectate and see if your pup is feeding better, otherwise go to the vet.
p.s. be careful using chicken baby food. I couldn't find anything without onions, and onions are bad for dogs. Good luck!

I'm agreeing with going to the vet - they can dehydrate and go down really quickly - The time I had to take Chanel she was the same way - she was only a little puppy but they can get really sick.... really fast. Good luck and I hope you can get something in your baby - try Pedialite if you can get him to drink -

Edited to tell Bettyanne - I re-read your post....I just saw you said get Pedialite - didn't see that the first time - I totally agree with what you said cause we've been there ....it can get so scary if they don't drink !

Default sick baby

Yes, I too would call your vet right now. Yorkies can go down hill fast and it is better to be safe than sorry. With him going both was, maybe he ate something it wasn't suppose to. They are just like kids. I use to work for a vet - 5 years and he used Tums instead of Pepto, but I would also use the Pedialyte. Best of luck. Hopefully it is just his stomach is upset.

Giz weighs 11 lbs. and after a couple days of doing the same was very dehydrated. Like mentioned here the Vet told me Yorkies dry out very quickly, Pedialite is good stuff. Turned out we had a bad case of pancreatitis. That's why he can no longer have people food. Doc said theor little digestive systems are just not designed to handle it. Giz still gets the occasional baby carrots. In emergencies he said I could give 1/2 teaspoon of Pepto or even 1/2 teaspoon kaopectate. It is pittiful to watch, please call someone soon. We even have an ER for animals where I live. Keep us updated, will ya? Hugs for your baby.

Rainbow Update

Charlie is doing much better. I gave him the pepto (1/4 teaspoon) and I also did the pedialyte thing too. It was hard for me to get him to take the pepto, he kept shaking his head and spitting it up. I finally put a gob of nutra-cal on the top of the syringe and he licked it, so I could squirt the pepto in. After 2 days, he was up and being playfull again. Then Bella got it. Not as bad, I think she will eat no matter what is wrong with her... ...but hers only lasted a day. The pedialyte and pepto saved me alot of headache and worry. Thanks for all of your support and suggestions. You're all the best!!!!

I am so happy that our Vets in Training worked. I'm always concerned giving advice, when it could be something worse. Consider your bill, "Paid In Full".

You might pick up a med eye dropper that is used for children. When giving your babies liquid meds, place the eye dropper at the side of the mouth, as far back as possible. On the other side of the mouth, gently pry their mouth open. The liquid med just slides down.
