| watch for toads If you live in Florida...beware the Bufo Marinus toad, can be deadly for dogs...but even if not in Florida (we live in Savannah, Georgia) we discovered last year that other toads can make your babies sick...after our little girl came in from the backyard one night salivating and foaming at the mouth...rinse their mouths immediately with lots of streaming water...have a vet check them out...in our case it turned out well...but it is at least very unpleasant for the dog...and in some cases life threatening...thankfully I was able to discover the toad "playing dead" (no doubt after it had been mouthed by our curious cutiepie), and running to the computer I made the mistake of thinking it must be a Bufo Marinus which came up when I Googled "Toxic toads and dogs"...so I was running around like a madman rinsing her mouth, getting her into her carrier to go to the vet...just "losing it" as my wife describes...only to discover at the vets that those toads do not come this far north...but that our little girl was still in danger from dehydration due to excessive vomitting...and the metoclopromide she was given provoked an allergic reaction and seizure...anyway...as I said...unpleasant experience all around...it's worth reading up about toads and dogs...and remove them from your yard when found... |
