| please help wth homecooking I am so upset with all this recall on the dog food stuff; I just dont know what to do with it. I have fed Bella 2 of the foods on the recall list. I have decided to stop with dog foods, and homecook. Just don't know how to go about it besides the obvious of "homecooking". Is there anything I should know or do before getting started on this?? what do I use for vitamins?? HELP anyone?!?!

| I've been homecooking for a while now. If you do a search on the topic here, you will find several recipes. I think there is even a sticky in health/diet for this!!!!!! I use Missing Link as a supplement. Many other folks use various oils and flax seed. There are also several good books on the topic and varying the recipe is usually recommended. Good luck!!!!

| I would recommend getting some good books on dog nutrition and natural health...One good book that I got recently is Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats. I highly recommend it! It explains all the different vitamins and supplements that need to be added to the food. You can get it on amazon.com for around $12. Or go to your local library. They might have it there. Good luck!!

| boiled chicken legs, pork chops and ground beef. vegetables: carrots, sweet potato and white potato, scrambled eggs. As for vitamins, I give my puppy Pet Tinic recommended by my vet. Depending on weight, you give it twice a day 1/2 teaspoon and she gets all the vitamins she is missing from not eating dog food. |

There are several good posts here w/ what everyone is feeding. We using missing link w/ Mojo and he loves it....he has a sensitive tummy and we havne't had a problem w/ that. The vet didn't recommend NutriCal for a daily supplement for Mojo (can't remember why), but we have it. When I cook Mojo's food, I use EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) or just water to cook the meat in (sounds weird, but the vet said to do this and it works great - plus, we double boil is food.....cook it once, drain it and cook it, boil it again in clean water). I heard that blueberries were good for them, but I haven't tried that. And I haven't thought to add some of my ground flax seed to his food either....course, I normally forget to add it to my own. Mojo loves: chicken, rice, carrots, lean ground beef, peas, snap peas, watermelon and various other fruits and vegies. Oh, and the occassional egg white and shredded cheddar.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | To get you started, go basic - and add more as you learn more. Maybe start w/ this: ***Chicken: boiled chicken breast (frozen breast is least $), or canned HUMAN chicken meat (lowest sodium) ***Brown rice ***Missing Link for Omegas etc. ***Calcium supplement (a must); I use Solid Gold Bone Meal
