| Plastic Dishes I noticed that my boyfriends dog has little pimples on his chin and has a little pink patch on his lip so I asked the vet what it might be and he said that he sees it all the time. It is caused by using a plastic dish for drinking water. Plastic holds bacteria and although we use plastic dishes for our food storage it is not good to do when giving your dog water. They carry a bacteria in thier saliva that transfers to the water and will live and breed in plastic. He said to use a metal dish and this wont happen. Just thought that I would share with you all. I know that there is a post about doggie pimples on here and I thought that instead of posting on there I would just start a new thread. |

| I wonder if ceramic bowls would be ok. My little Coco uses ceramic ones from Target but I haven't noticed anything different. Are they obvious patches/redness?

| You know, the past few days I noticed a pink spot by Leila's nose, by her lip. I also have a Le Bistro water dish. We wash it regularly, but I can kinda see what you are saying. ICK. |

| We can't stand plastic, therefore, we only use stainless or glass for Toto. I have a tiny little two bowl stainless stand that holds her water & dry kibble. I found little glass salsa dishes at $Tree which are perfect for her little 1/8 cup of canned food that she gets twice a day. They are so handy ... I also wash her stainless water bowl and put fresh water down about 3-4 times a day. I do notice a "slimy" feel to her bowls but didn't know what caused it ... thanks for the info!

| Wow, thanks for telling me, I'll get Tucker a new bowl. Our lab always drinks out of the toilet-yuck! Worse than plastic, I'll bet.

This is the same kind of dish that my boyfriends dog had. From what the vet said, you can spray it out with bleach and let it set every few days and this will kill the bacteria. I haven't heard anythng about ceramic. I wouldn't see where that would be a problem but I will ask when I talk to my vet again. | |

| I never would have thought that this would be a cause for something like this. ANd when you think about it it is rather simple. My boyfriends dog has a small patch of hair missing on his lip. We couldn't figure out what it was from and we kinda thought that it might be just a birth mark cause it has been there almost always but my vet said that this is possibly the cause for that also. I will let ya'll know if the hair comes back after he is using a metal dish. |
