| 1.5 Yr Yorkie , No heat cycle? My yorkie is about 1 1/2 yrs old. We thought she might have had a heat cycle by now, but nothing. The only differences in her behavior is that lately she has been kinda having bowls more often and they are a little runnier than usual and she can't seam to hold it as long as usual....instead of running downstairs to her she runs into the closest bathroom and goes on the floor . I haven't changed her diet or her routine. she is up to date on her shots and preventatives. Could this be a sign of her coming heat cycle? if not what are some signs and should I be concerned that she hasn't had it yet?

| hmmm how much does she weigh? that might have something to do with it.. also some yorkies bleed very very little and they lick it off right away so you dont notice... have her nipples or vulva swollen yet? |

| My vet told me today that a yorkie may not have a heat cycle for 1-2 years if she isn't around any testosterone males. I never knew that. Maybe that is it. I also have read that sometime the heat cycles are so mild that you never knew it even happened. |

| Sometimes if you don't look closely... you can miss it. My 4 lb girl bled and I saw it right away while my 6 lb girl..... I completely missed. You you are watching for her cycle, you almost have to stick tissue in her vulva everyday to check. Also, another sigh is if you run your hand down her spine..... she will flag if she is in heat! |

| Well she is is about 5 lbs. and her nipples are about 1mm wide. and they are a little dark in color, her vulva isn't much more swollen than usual. she doesn't lick herself that much. I check her everyday but I don't use tissue to check her. I Just look...Maybe I should use tissue..

| She may have had what is called a Silent Heat....no outward signs, but still experiencing it.......not uncommon to miss it.

| Huh? This is a true question, not being smart at all: How would anyone mistake a girl dog for a boy dog for 1 1/2 years? Has that happened before?

Just probably funning..... Although, I at one time, years ago, named a cat Felicia......took it to the vet's at approximately 4 months of age....(it was a stray cat).....vet asked me what the cat's name was, I told him. He came back with shame on you........this cat is a boy.......

| My Emilee didn't have her first heat until she was 17 months old and Gidget was almost 16 months. A friend of mine thought that was so unusual and thought it was because I gave them bottled water to drink....LOL

| Sunshine goes into heat every 6 mos. Usually it's a split heat. On for a week off for 2 then back on for the rest of it. Her sister didn't go into heat until after she was 2.
