| First of all, ticks have nothing to do with dirty animals or house. Ticks basically are blood sucking nasty, ugly things that like to travel on deer etc. Even if your dog is on the move it only takes a second for a tick to attach itself. A tick can be in the grass, on a tree or plant, or falling from a tree. They can sense the warmth of blood. The best thing is preventive measures such as Frontline or the like. They are scary and disgusting. I've had them on me before (from camping) and I freak out every time. I've also had one on my Golden and it was engorged with blood like the size of a grape, I almost passed out..just another part of life...ewwww.. Kathy |

| hey.. well it doen'st mean that your animals are dirty... so don't wrorya bout that.. any dog can get ticks.. as i learned from Simon's Mom... they come from wooded areas.. i thought layla had one today but it just turned out to be a scab... but i read that an easy way to get them off the skin (pulling them off isn't the best way) is a drop of tea tree oil. |

| I have a thread in Health & Diet on Frontline...I used Frontline 12 days ago & just found a tick attached on my Jack, I called the Frontline co.this morning & they said Frontline DOES NOT prevent the tick from attaching or hopping on for a ride....the flea or tick has to bite the dog to be exposed to the poison, then it dies & falls off...lovely isn't it

| see i knew you guys are more helpful but see the vet told me that he most likely had to be laying down and it crawled on him, that ticks dont jump and they crawl real slow, and he said he had to have been on him longer than 2 days if he had blood in him but i told him i disagree i know that we would have found it if he had it, i was gone friday thats why i think we didnt find it till saturday cause as soon as i got home saturday i scooped him up and not even 10 mins later i found it i mean it wasnt small it was big but do they crawl big the vet said they hes big from sucking frankies blood, and that he isnt big whenevre he doesnt have blood to suck but i said maybe he was outside and it was in the grass or something and it jumped on him and thevet continued to make me feel small by saying they dont jump, but maybe he got into his fur and then found his way to his chin but that im glad and you dont have to be dirty cause i was like omg but if there hasppens to be one or more in the house where will it be hiding or where would it be where can i look? uhhh i think im going to faint

| what about the dip they said to use? i am headed in today to my petsmart becuase my vet didnt have the right something or other for frankies size but he said you can dip them and i of course asked how and he said well you dip them in the solution and warm water and you let them drip dry like that and repeat 7 days later if he is infested but i think he just had one and my cats didnt have any on them, and i checked my kids and my sheets and franks bed , but once they are on like frankie do they jump off? or do they just go for the ride and keep sucking till they want to? i freaked becuase after he was taken off frankie and my hubs smashed the tick and yes i loved every sqaushing moment of it squashing and mashing its brains along with some blood out of it but uhh death to ticks anyway after wards i bathed him and checked him over fo rmore and he swelled up nasty but they vet said its from the scissor comb things pulling the tick off and then having to go back and pull the baby off him, uhh thats just sick

| Ticks don't jump, I've seen a tick on a dog that was about the size of a dime, it had been sucking for awhile, usually there small like maybe a little smaller than the top of a pencil eraser....ticks are everywhere, they like tall grass, stacked firewood, shade...since you got it off I wouldn't dip him in unnecessary chemicals...I'm going to try this 4 in 1 shampoo it's supposed to repel them off http://www.highcascadeemus.com/xcart...p?productid=40

| I know exactly how you feel! Simon had 3 last week and I blamed myself and freaked out and felt HORRIBLE! My vet told me that this year is particularly bad here since out weather this winter was crazy. Simon got his in my front yard laying in the grass (I'm suspecting). He's on Revolution which kills them but doesn't repel them. I'm very cautious now to thoroughly check him when we come inside. |
