| I know that it's been recommended to use garlic & Brewers yeast for a natural way of killing fleas, I've never tried it my self so I have no opinions on it if it works or not....another alternative I've come across that's safe is " Fossil Shell Flour" it must be food grade....I've read that it's a powder & you part the hair & get it on the skin...it's supposed to kill the fleas when they come in contact w/ it by cutting their bodies & the pest dies a slow death....it takes longer to work than a chemical....but it's safer...it can be put in the pets bed, even if there's puppies or a pregnant mom....I believe the co. name is Perma Guard......

| Frontline from Overseas As promised I wanted to get back here after my visit to our Vet today. I asked about the difference between the U.S. and overseas Frontline. I was told they usually have the same ingredients, but at different doses. Supposedly, Austrailia uses either too much or too little of the active ingredient Fipronil (sp.) If you get too little, you're waisting money, if you get too much it can hurt the animal. So I guess just be sure of what you're getting. I'm not taking any chances and will continue to buy my heartworm and flea protection from my Vet.

| Sorry, I just got back home from a weekend out of town. I do not think it said whether to do this before or after a bath. Maybe you just do it once a week or something...in between a bath??? I don't know...I will try to find the booklet I got it out of and then I will post what it says.

| Okay, I found it and it doesn't say anything regarding when or how often to do it. I think I will do it in between baths and see.....OR I will probably call me vet and see what she says....although, I am not certain how well she cares for these "alternative, natural" ways of treating our pets.....nothing bad against her, I just know some vets/doctors would prefer you to buy the stuff...ya know?!

| Split frontline into weight dependant dosages Frontline is the same concentration in all dispensed packs right? The price is nearly the same for all packs right? (+/- $3.00) So........You know what I'm getting at...... Frontline had to market their product, so they took the average of weights and decided on a dosage amount per weight range. But really they found the dosage per pound necessary, and kept it from us. They Say," Dogs 0-22lbs .67ml Dogs 23-44lbs 1.33ml Dogs 45-88lbs 2.67ml Dogs 89lbs & more 4.0ml" I say, there is a more accurate and more efficient method of dispensing the medication. The above dosing schedule has a minimum dosage of .0305ml per Lb. and a maximum dosing of .0593/lb; therefore, as an average .0448ml per pound. So, .... (Your dog's weight in Lbs) * (.0448ml) = proper dose! Example: 55 lb dog = 55*.0448ml = 2.46ml proper dose! Yes I know they recommend more for this size. Now, go by the biggest package you can = 89lbs+, get a plastic needleless syringe, empty each dose into a convenient plastic vile. (At least 12ml tall) cap it and use the correct dose each time you apply each month for a savings! The smaller the dog, the bigger the savings! Example: 22lb dog = 1ml; buy the 4.0ml size and use the 3 month package for 12 months. a savings of 75%!! Seriously, can you say a dog 44lbs and a dog 88 lbs should get the same dosage, really? So, do it right. Enjoy. |

| Frontline dosage I researched this topic several years ago online and found a breeder that stated the proper dosage of frontline plus for dogs is .0306 ml per lb. Before using this amount I did the math and this dosage falls in line with standard frontline dosages. I have been using .03 ml/lb for several years on 3 different sized dogs with expected results. This is much more accurate than using the same amount for 25 & 50 lb dogs as per package instructions. My vet agreed that it's better to do it this way as long as you are accurate with your measurements. I use a hypodermic syringe with no needle attached that has ml markings on the syringe for accuracy. The liquid can then be applied between the shoulders with the syringe quite easily. Paul |
