| Just water? Hello my question today is. Can i give my yorkie anything to drink besides water? i think as a human i would be sick of just drinking water everyday. I wanna know whats safe and that won't make him sick. we have given him warm milk from time to time. we found out that cold milk makes him sick. so we warm it up and his fine. so any suggestions on what else they can drink? his 3 years old this Aug. |

| Well, yes.... "just water" for humans is boring but dogs are different. I've always heard not to give dogs anything but water. Even with cats, it's not good to give them milk but I've heard of people doing it all the time. Many people say that dog food must be "boring" to dogs too but I think it's us, the humans, that have that opinion. Dogs only know to eat what you feed them. I'm no expert though so it'll be interesting to see if someone knows differently.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You can definitely add some Pedialyte (or generic). It comes in fruity type flavors and is very safe. Do a ratio of 1/3 pedia 2/3 water or 1/4 pedia 3/4 water.

| "Just Water"? Humans would be healthier if we took our cue from dogs and drank "just water". Food and rink is meant to sustain life, not be entertainment. Animals know that. |

| I know you can also mix 3/4 water with 1/4 poweraide (or gateraide) That what my mom gives her pups in the summer time.

| Logan likes to drink the propel fitness water. I figure it should be safe given that it's just water with sugar & flavor added. I figure the sugar should help with hypoglecmia in the summer. I have heard that caffeine is bad for them & that most animals are mildly lactose intolerant towards cow milk.

| Misha is very picky and I am having a hard time getting her to take an antibiotic that is powder. I can't sprinkle it in yogurt or most foods because she won't eat it. I've been putting it on her cheerios with a little lactose free milk. She's been drinking it up. The only thing is the milk is $4 bucks a half gallon.

| I don't know about you all, but I loooove water. Nothing else quenches my thirst like water, and I never get tired of it. Dogs don't get tired of water... If you didn't know chocolate existed, you would never crave it, right? Same thing with dogs, if they don't know anything else is out there, they don't care about trying a new drink...Water is crucial for their health.

| Since dogs do well with animal protien, then milk is just fine. Mine get milk two to three times a week and sometimes I mix their yogurt into it. You can give them soup too if it's home made. Just boil chicken, carrots, celery and cabbage till done, strain, saving the chicken and veggies, put in ref. till cold, then skim off any fat. The rest can be fed to the dogs at meal time. |

| Many dogs are highly allergic to milk. If your little one got sick off cold milk, I would be VERY cautious about giving him warm milk. I would play it safe and just stick to water. Dogs don't get tired of it, I promise! If you give him something instead of water, he is likely to get dehydrated or develop a UTI. |
