| Now tainted RICE PROTEIN..... There are 5 BIG companies who may have bought tainted rice gluten, also from China, and there may be many more recalls to come. Natural Balnce already recalled their products, but the fishy thing is, they claim to be grain free. Now they have changed their ingredient lists on their web site to include rice protein. This is getting out of control, and it is very scary. This was taken from USA today on Itchmo site.... USA Today: Rice Protein Sold to 4 Others April 17th, 2007 Supplier was identified as San Francisco-based Wilbur-Ellis. CEO John Thacher said ?his company sold the concentrate to five pet-food makers, but that most of it went to two firms.? USA Today says of those five, only Diamond Pet Foods is named. The other major manufacturer tested for melamine and it did not test positive. Diamond Pet Food says they do not use rice protein in their foods. According to Thacher, the melamine contamination was reported to the FDA a week ago on Sunday. The rice protein concentrate was imported from China from Binzhou Futian Biology Technology. Their Web site lists three different types of feed grade rice protein. Also of note, as you may have read in our comments, Natural Balance has updated their list of ingredients to include rice protein in recent days ? raising questions about when the substance was actually added to the product. Howl911 has a side by side ingredient From the Sacramento Bee article: Local veterinarians who?ve tracked kidney ailments nationwide have tentatively identified five more foods, not at this point under any recall, that they plan to have tested as soon as possible. The Veterinary Information Network, used by about 16,000 of the estimated 35,000 U.S. veterinarians, noticed the five foods kept recurring in vet-described disease reports, said Paul Pion, the Davis vet who co-founded the service. Pion said it would be premature to name the foods. Emphasis ours. We should also note that we hold Dr. Pion in the highest regard and we hope that you will also trust him to do the right thing at the right time. We do. Why is releasing this information important if there?s no confirmation? We want the FDA and others to take notice and tell us who else got the rice protein. Dr. Pion shouldn?t have to do this. It?s not his job. The supplier already told us the food went to more than Diamond. Someone already yelled ?fire? in a crowded theatre. Go here for more information...... http://www.itchmo.com/

| So, if they know the rice protein went to Diamond - that means Diamond Foods, Chicken Soup, and Solid Gold?????

| That's a very good guess! I don't understand why the FDA cannot make this company disclose who else purchased the rice protein. This is absolutely infuriating!

| What is even more confusing is that Diamond says they don't use the rice protein in their foods - so then why do they get it?! Amd does this mean just Diamond brand or the others manufacutered at their facility (Chicken Soup, Solid Gold)??????

| I am sooo confused by all this. Solid Gold's web site has a message there saying they get all their products domestically. With 3 exceptions.... Re: Natural Balance Product Removal / Menu Foods We at Solid Gold Health Products for Pets, Inc. ("Solid Gold') realize that consumers are very concerned with the recent product food recalls. We would like to assure our customers that there are no safety concerns with Solid Gold products. The product recalls and removals have centered around ingredients sourced in China, in particular wheat gluten and now rice protein concentrate. These products are thought to be contaminated with melamine. Neither of these ingredients are used in any Solid Gold food products, nor do we source any ingredients from China, either directly or indirectly. We do not use gluten meal of any kind in any of our foods. All the ingredients in Solid Gold products are sourced domestically with three exceptions. The lamb meal used in our dry foods is sourced from New Zealand, which produces some of the cleanest meat in the world. The potato protein used in Barking at the Moon is sourced in Europe. Our Blended Tuna canned cat food (grain free) is produced offshore due to the lack of tuna processing plants in the United States. Sincerely, Steven J. Wirick Chief Operating Officer Solid Gold Health Products for Pets, Inc. Tel. # 800-364-4863 Thats from their site. But Natural Balance also claims to be grain free, so why did they all of a sudden change their ingredient list on their website???? Something is not right..... There is soemthing going on, and someone is covering something up that is going to be huge when this all comes out. I am soooo scared.

| This is driving me nuts!!!! I don't want to needlessly panic, but I don't want to hurt my babies either. They only get a small amount of Solid Gold, but no amount is good if there is a possibility it is tainted.

| Anymore I am never surprised to get on here and see that there is something elsa added to the list. No reason to be scared...just stop buying. Eventually they will feel the loss and rethink how they are doing things. Kim

| I think ALL dog/cat food companies need to come out and be 100% truthful. Tell us where the products are made and tell us IMMEDIATELY at the sign of concern. I'm so concerned now that I might be feeding my two dangerous food... This is out of hand. The FDA needs to step in immediately and fix the situation.

| Yes, kinda like boycott.......but it's easier said than done. Many people in America are too busy to cook for themselves much less their pooch.

| This is very strange. I just checked http://www.diamondpet.com/ and it reiterates that no wheat gluten or rice protein concentrate is used in any Diamond canned, dry, or treats. Same message is on http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/ It was one thing for Natural Balance to leave the ingredient out; but I don't think Diamond/Chicken Soup would legally get away with denying it was an ingredient like this. So, I believe them.

| Here is another article regarding the recall on rice protein. Not only will they not say what other brands are involved, but the Chinese won't let the FDA inspectors in! WHAT?! This is really scary. Nothing is safe anymore. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070418/...et_food_recall

It is very scary. Why will they not release the other names of the brands that could possiblt be involved. I don't get it. I heard about that Chinese not letting them in inspect too. That right there says to me that they know there is a big problem, and there is nothing they can do now. I just hope they do tell us soon...we shall see.....

I bought a sample sized bag of Chicken Soup about 2-3 weeks ago and my pups ate it all up. I was mixing the Chicken Soup with the old food (Nutro Puppy) so I wasn't 100% sure they really really liked the Chicken Soup. I bought another sample bag last Thurs or Fri and gave them 100% Chicken Soup - they whined, cried and did NOT EAT THE FOOD. (I tried to feed it a couple of times) Luckily I had tons of Artemis samples and that got me through the weekened until I could go buy that food, but it makes me wonder if the pups know something is not right w/the food?! (Maybe they are becoming 'discerning eaters' heehee) I still have the bag at home and I'm curious to see if it shows up on the recall...This recall crapola is way too much and gotten way out of hand...scary... | |

| I'm getting to the point that I'm scared to feed them anything at all. But the same goes for our food too. Look at all the recalls lately on ours.
