| Another Possible Recall ????? I hope not, this is a Newsletter i got this morning, i called my Vet, and he said the makers of Heartguard usualy are pretty good of letting them know if there is a problem, and so far so good, but i thought i copy this letter so everyone can watch out ! It is getting downright scary From: Dr Andrew Jones Author: Veterinary Secrets Revealed Website: http://www.veterinarysecretsrevealed.com Hello, Claudia Re: Wheat gluten strikes again, and stop the Heartguard. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Hello all. There are new recalled pet foods, with likely additional recalls to come. Natural Balance Pet Foods recalls Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food. Here is a copy of what exists on their website now: NOTICE: We are receiving consumer complaints regarding the Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Foods. We do not know what is wrong with the food at this time, but we have heard that animals are vomiting and experiencing kidney problems. Although the problems seem to be focused on one particular lot, as a precautionary measure, we are pulling all dates of Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food from the shelves. Please discontinue feeding all Venison and Brown Rice Dry Dog Food, and Venison and Green Pea Dry Cat Food. We are working closely with the FDA. We will update this website today, as more information comes available. NO OTHER NATURAL BALANCE PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED. I have been told that a popular Heartworm preventive medication called Heartguard may be recalled soon as well. These are chewable tablets, and I suspect that they also contain wheat gluten to keep them bound together. If you are using them as a Heartworm Preventive, I suggest that you stop, and switch to another Preventive such as Interceptor. I'll keep you all posted as the news progresses.

| We don't give heartguard because we use revolution, but if that's true, it would be detrimental!! How awful

| If everyone could take the all natural approach then there would not be a worry all the time. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | this is just ridiculous. I wish they would figure out what is going on already. how are all these products being recalled? i doubt the wheat gluten used by heartguard (if that's whats in the pills) is the same used by menu foods, so what else is causing all this? Or are people just becoming so paranoid now that every case of kidney failure is being reported as having to due with something else? are people just looking to place blame on something? Kidney disease is a common disease. I wonder if the percentage of animals with kidney disease has gone up or stayed relatively the same. The numbers might have stayed relatively the same but are just being more publicized now because of the recalls.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | even people food lately has been recalled so the natural approach isn't the answer either. who's to say that the next thing recalled won't be rice or barely or something that you put in your home cooked recipe?

| Heartgard - Please Investigate Before Posting I read a thread that says that Heartgard might now be recalled. Someone has been posting letters all over the web from a "Dr. Jones". People need to thoroughly investigate these things before spreading rumors all over the world via their computers!! I looked on the FDA site (and NO I don't always trust them) and looked on various message boards for VALID information about this and found nothing. I also looked at the link that was posted....a holistic site that is trying to get business. PLEASE BE CAREFUL when reading these things. I called and spoke with the Merial company...and YOU can also do the same. BUT...there is no wheat or rice in Heartgard plus. They WILL be posting something about this in the next day or two at: http://heartgard.us.merial.com/home/ PLEASE STOP THE INSANITY. Yes, there are dangerous foods out there and we must be vigilant, but we cannot just take one email as gospel. Our pups lives are at stake. If you ever saw what happens to a dog when it goes through HW treatment, you would NOT mess with little lives by not protecting them from heartworms. Linda |

| I just got off the phone with my vet and this is what I was told. They also received an-email regarding HeartGuard. Yes, there is wheat gluten in it, however, the wheat gluten in this product is manufactured in the US from Kentucky actually. It is FINE! Just do not use any product the contains wheat gluten from CANADA at this time. That is where the problem lies. |
