Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I need Marcel Verdel Purcell to gain weight... Hi All, Well, he's gained 1.4 oz. since I've had him, which is great. I was hoping to get him to 3 pounds as an adult (currently 1 pound, 5.4 oz.), but if I look at that puppy growth chart, current/past weights, it looks like he's on track for a max of 2 pounds. Dare I hope for a late spurt or do you think at 18 weeks we're probably tracking at his best? I'm feeding him kibble, boiled chicken, rice, nutrical, yogurt. Is there ANYTHING else I can give the little fella to maximize his weight potential? Many thanks, Ann

| HHmmmmm.... maybe reduce the weight of that huuuuuge name that teeny weeny little scrap of Yorkieness has to carry around, LOL. Seriously though, he looks very healthy in his pic (and totally adorable.) When you feel his chest, can you feel his ribs? He may not be too skinny, but just adequately covered for his diminuitive size. If you are worried about a lack of weight gain, there are some great recipes posted as a sticky right here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75933 Please keep posting pics and updates, I just love looking at your tiny little boy with the gianormous name.... he is just one little sweetheart! |

| I just wanted to add one thing... last year I head a sick little guy that ate very little. I supplemeted his food with Gerber's Baby Graduates chicken sausages. He gobbled them right up. Just check the ingredients and make sure there is no onion. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Ah! Baby food! That's right - I've heard it mentioned here and my breeder mentioned it to me as well. Maybe his name IS too heavy! LOL. My husband and I love calling out "Marcel Verdel Purcell!" - as if there might be some other Marcel in the house...we're our own best audience, obviously.

| When I got Lacy at 10 weeks she weighed just 17 ozs, she also gained weight very slowly...Her parents were small, no matter what I gave her to eat she just did not gain that much, However the vet said she was fine...Now we are at 5 months and she weighs about 1.8 oz, also on track for 2 lbs full grown..She has very tiny paws and very small features so I think she will just be tiny as will your tiny guy...Its definatly harder to find clothes that small though...so don't worry.... | Me too! The good news is that even if your baby's on track for being only 2 lbs...at least you're in line to be in the next 'MR BARKY VON SCHNAUZER' commercial!

| I just adore that name! Marcel looks just like my little Lily. She is 16 wks old and weighs 1.3 lbs. I am also hoping to get her to at least 2 lbs. I am currently giving her Rebound to encourage weight gain. feminvstr posted the following recipes for weight gain. I have not had a chance to try them yet but they sure look good. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=71553&page=4 She also said to add avocados to help them put on pounds and mix in a little alfalfa into their food. Here is a picture of my Lily. I wish you lived closer to me, I would love to get these two munchkins together!

| Here is a thread that may be useful. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58036 It is for puppies with hypoglycemia, but you can use it on any dog that you want to gain weight. Hope this helps! |

I have often worried about Maggie's weight because she does not eat much, but she has gained pretty steadily. But in my worries, I had several people tell me to try baby food & cottage cheese. My vet simply said wet food mixed with the dry food. I can't attest to any of those, I never really tried anything other than the little bit of wet food the vet gave me and she really wouldn't eat that either Well, I do hope you find your answers here. These people here are amazing at giving advice. I know how it is to worry about their weight Good luck! I love to see pictures of this little guy he is a doll

| you could get a late growth spurt. kikko at 16 weeks was MAYBE 1.5 lbs ... he didn't really start gaining weight or get bigger until 6 months. he is now 7 months and at 2.75 lbs. so you never know. gluck though ... marcel is so adorable and handsome. everyone's munchkins are so cute!!!
