at first while your yorkie's system clears out they may have soft poops (Layla did not) but once their bodies adjust it is smooth sailing. Layla has been on home cooked food for probably 4 months and she has honeslty never been healthier.

What a great thread...somehow I missed it.

Another recipe to add...I give Zoe dry during the day and homecook at night so I don't really measure the portions (and I know there's a huge debate about portioningin) or add supplements

olive oil
ground beef, chicken, or turkey or turkey breast peeled
carbs (brown rice or alternate with pasta)
veggies (brocolli, green beans, carrots, peas, spinach, or whatever I have on hand) + add 1 tomato
flavor with rosemary or other herbs
salt
I keep it semi stewy although their face gets really yucky with wet foods so I keep it on the runny but not so soupy side

The funny thing is, they taste so good to me (and look good) but I have to be sure to tell my husband it's Zoe's food in the tupperware and not ours lol.

Default Homemade Yorkie Recipes

Tricksie loves food, just not dog food. She is on dry dog food. I have been putting a teaspoon of baby food, (carrots, sweet potatoes, peas and green beans, have no additives, just water)- in the dry food. What about adding scrambeled eggs? I do give her a tiny bite of banana.
She is so healthy and happy but I want her to stay healthy. Her poop is still solid. :

Smile super vitachew from petmeds

i just started my 6 lb yorkie on these vitamins from petmeds . it is super vitachew.
is it ok to give him 1 whole one , broken in half once a day , cause it says 1 vitamin up to 20 lbs, does that mean a 5 or 6 lb yorkie can take the same amount as a 20 lb yorkie.
i also give him missing link in his food . is it too much vitamins for him to take?
he loves the super vitachews, all i do is cut it in half and he chews them right up.
thanks for your help , all you people on this website are super great

In a large pan I very briefly sauté in 1 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 pound of ground chicken and 1 pound of beef, add a total of 9 cups of half water/ half unsalted chicken broth, stir in 3 cups of millet and let simmer.
After 10 Minutes, I add 2 cups of a combination of grated Carrots, Zucchini, Celery, Fennel, Parsley, (no beans or cabbage...!!) and very little garlic powder plus sometimes fruit like bananas, very little Mango, Apple or Berries, sometimes a little Peanutbutter or Parmesan. (Just to change the flavor.) You can divide the cooked mixture and add different final flavors to it.
Let cool, fill in ice cube trays, (or other small containers) freeze and fill in Ziploc bags to avoid freezer burn.
I take two of the cubes out every evening to let thaw in the fridge for the next day.
I serve it to Filou in the shape of a little mount and put his quarter of Vitamin pill (description on bottom of page) on the very top so he gulps it down with his first eager bite.
Depending on the size of your dog, this portion will last between 2 and 4 weeks.
The only setback about this preparation is Filou barking during the entire 20 Minute cooking time!

Plus I add a Super VitaChew from PetMeds to his food each day...and cut it up with a pill cutter and mix it with his food. Taylor gobbles this!

Also I ordered the book "The Whole Pet Diet" from www.amazon.com and it has a lot of good recipes and information.

hi, i am reading that you give your yorkie a 1/4 of his vitamin a day, super vitachews, i was wondering how big he is , cause i read on the bottle that up to 20 lbs, to give a whole pill. my sammy is 6.5 lbs and i give him 1 pill a day. do you think it is harmful to him and do you think i should cut it down to half?
by the way i made your recipe tonight and added all different flavors by dividing up the portions. i had him taste each one and he loved the flavors. thanks for your help

Taylor is 11 lbs and I give him a whole vitachew each day. I cut it up with a pill cutter and mix it in his food.

Default Doggie Tuna-Mac!

1 C. Whole Wheat pasta (uncooked, organic if possible)
1/4 C. Grated Carrots or Peas
1 T. Butter
1/2 T. all-purpose flour
1 can tuna
1/2 C. shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 C. skim milk
1 tsp Healthy Powder (I just added this to the recipe)
500 iu Vitamin E

Cook pasta according to package directions. (If you use anything larger than small shells, chop it up into smaller pieces so it's easier for them to eat.)

Melt butter in small saucepan. Add milk and flour, and cook over medium-low heat until sauce is thickened and bubbly. Stir in cheddar cheese until all is melted together. Remove from heat or it will stick to the bottom of the pan.

Drain tuna, put in medium bowl. Add veggies and pasta. Stir in supplements until well distributed. Pour cheese sauce over entire mixture and toss. You can top with a little extra cheese or veggies, if you like.

Makes about 2 cups of food-about 4-6 yorkie meals. I made this and froze half for later. Emma and Milli LOVED it!

Default Peanut Butter Pupsicles

On hot days everydoggie loves a cool treat:
May have been posted but I saw it today as a Myspace Bulletine..

1 ripe banana
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup oatmeal

Mash bananas and peanut butter, stir in oatmeal.
Chill 1 hour.
Make into appropriate sized snacks for your pup.
Place in container, store in refrigerator (about 3 days) or freezer (probably 7, but they never last that long around here...).

Note: The original recipe called for wheat germ, but we use oatmeal. We also use natural/no-sugar-added peanut butter. We use a dogbone shaped cookie cutter to shape the pupsicles!

Bone apetit!!
