| Help - Question - to spay? Or not to Spay Hello all!! I am in a place of indecision. My baby is now 6 months old today They grow up so fast! Anyway, I was told to have her fixed around 6 months - so made an appt. for Friday of this week a while back. Now that the date is coming, I'm wondering if I should fix her. I'm concerned. I can't turn it back if I do it. I didn't want to bring more puppies into this world (images of horrible puppy mills and also shelters with unwanted animals comes to mind and I get sad). But if my breeder would have had that stand, I wouldn't have my angel..... She's beautiful - and she is small. Under 5 lbs full grown. So I'm concerned about her size - is it dangerous if she did have a litter? I have taken care of litters of pups before, so that isn't the part that concerns me. I was told I should let her have one litter, that it is better for them. Is that true do you think? I do not want to breed her for the monetary gain that's for sure...........If I did do it it would be for me to experience the joy of the babies, and to see her be a mommy....... I'm stuck - can anyone offer advice??? |

| A breeder could probably offer you the best advice, but maybe I can try to offer my input too... Your baby is small, and if she were mine, I would be worried sick through the pregnancy. There are lots of possible problems with deliveries in yorkies, especially small ones, and then, even if the babies were born without a hitch, I'd have to worry about taking care of a tiny litter of babies too. I know you're a wonderful mom, so I think when you consider the dangers to your beautiful yorkie, and all the concern involved, you'll decide that its not worth the worry. |

| She is of a safe size to breed but she is on the small side of safe size. I am sure you are familiar wiith the dangers of breeding. If you dont breed her you really should get her spayed because unspayed females have a higher chance of getting mammory cancer. I have seen a female unspayed yorkie on here get that. Good luck and the choice is up to you to breed or not. I would read the posts in our Breeders section. Maybe that would help with your decison.
