| When do they go into heat? Roxy is going to be 6 months on June 8th and Gibson will be 6 months on June 28th. I am thinking of getting them spayed and neutered at the same time, after Gibson is 6 months old. The problem is I dont want Roxy to go into heat before then, and she will almost be 7 months old before Gibson is 6 when do they usually go into heat? |

| I think they can go into heat anywhere from 5 to 7 mos. I am in the same postion as you with a male and a female close in age. Only my male is 4 weeks older. They are 5 mos and 4 mos now so I will be neutering my male soon also.

| I am in the same position you are in too.. Missy went into her 1st heat at 6mo old, she is now almost 11mo and is into her 2nd heat!! I just discovered it last night.. I was planning to have them both spay/neutered on June 15th but now I am really worried.. I hope I didnt put it off too long. Missy's heat is hardley noticable, I thought she was acting a little different so I inspected her and found she was in heat. If I didnt check her I would never of known. I think you should consider spay/neuter the sooner the better. I thought it was a good idea for me to wait for various reasons 1. I will be on a 2 week vacation in June so I can be home with both of them while they recover 2. Max hasn't lost very many baby teeth so I wanted to wait till more fell out.. no luck, he will have lots pulled at the appt. But I have to watch my girl like a hawke, being in heat and a horny little Max in the house.. I have panties on her and a belly band on him. I am scared and will be really sorry if something happends. |

| I have never heard of one of any breed coming in heat before 6 months and have never known of any that came in that soon. Lady didn't come in heat until she was 13 months old and Autumn came in at 8 months. I think 8 months is the earliest I personally have heard of a dog come in heat. I asked a question before about how close two heats in one female can come. All I heard was 6 months. Now Missy's Mom says her little girl came in again at 5 months later. Can dogs come in sooner than that? Sylvia |

| There was someone on her in another post that said their dog came into heat at 5 mos. I was told they come into heat usually around their 7th month.

| Oh Jeez! Really???? Bunny is 4 months and I had heard that the average age was 10 months!!! Can anyone confirm that you are supposed to have them spayed BEFORE their first heat cycle? |

| I have not heard of any reason why you have to have them spayed before their first heat. I hope its about 10 months I want to wait as long as I can so I can get the baby teeth pulled at the same time. I think I will probably have her spayed after shes had her first heat,

| I am hoping ten months for the same reason about the teeth also. I had Tino neutered at that age and had his baby teeth removed at the same time and it was great bc he only had to go under once! As far as before the first heat cycle for the females, for some reason I think I had heard it reduced mammary cancer (i think) to almost no chance. |

| I don't know if dogs are the same as cats, but I just had my persian spayed because she was having more and more frequent heats and she was so "noisy" whenever she was in heat that it was annoying! Someone that I complained about it to told me that if they do't get pregnant they will have their heats more often because they are "trying to get pregnant". I know there is some controversy over the benefits of spaying before they go into heat, but I think with litle yorkies especially, it is okay to let them have a heat because the risks of the surgery outweigh the benefits of spaying earlier. Just what I've heard. My vet may me feel stupid when I said Chai was too young and too small to spay at 5 months, but I have switched vets!! |

| I have a little girl Yorkie that is 8 months old. She had her first heat at six. I have been told that Yorkies come in once a year. Is this true. I would like her to have one litter. So do I have a whole year to wate to have the puppies to play with? |
