| extra teeth? i could use some input on this one... I really don't know how to describe this. maggie looks like she has an extra canine tooth on the bottom. she has 2 canines on one side. does this make any sense?? One of them is the puppy tooth and then right behind it is another one that has only started coming in over the last few days apparently. I just noticed it when trying to brush her teeth. It's so weird, i have never seen anything like that before. Have you heard of this? do you think she will loose the puppy tooth and just have the one? I plan on taking her by the vet in the morning to have them tell me what they think, but you know how it is when you want answers RIGHT NOW any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

| If you wait long enough she might lose them on her own. Chachi and Jewels had 4 removed at their spay/neuter

BANNED! | She's getting her adult teeth and apparently it hasnt pushed out her puppy teeth on that particular one yet. It may still come out on its own, I would just watch it. It is possible sometimes for the puppy tooth not to come out on its own, but I wouldnt worry just yet. |

| so, what you're saying is "don't freak out yet" LOL I tend to get really nervous when things aren't the way I think they should be I will wait and see if it falls out on it's own when the other one is completely in. it is just weird how it is growing...it seems like when the puppy tooth does fall out or get pulled or whatever, her adult tooth is going to be in a weird spot. does it usually correct itself? do they make doggie braces?? LOL just kidding.

| Conner had his two adult teeth in, and his baby ones were still there. Fortunately, they fell out because if they didn't, the vet was going to pull them. The vet said this is common and they usually fall out on their own. |

| too many teeth Hi! Both of my yorkies ended up with both sets of teeth. When i had them spayed, all the baby teether were pulled and the permanent teeth actually moved over in time and got where they were supposed to be. This is very common in the tiny breeds. Since i got Angel at 10 months from the breeder, nothing had been done to help out her teeth and they were horrible. She has a beautiful smile now although some are still crooked. My other girl, Princess, that i just got 2 weeks ago at 10 months old also has both sets of teeth. She can still eat just fine and we are going to have all the baby teeth removed when she is spayed in a couple of weeks too. Not to worry as this is soooooooooo common!! They do look funny with 8 canines! My oldest one has the underbite and so we had to have some permanent teeth on the top removed so that her bottom canines could come in without distorting her beautiful smile. We went to the doggie dentist for that and it was so worth it. You might ask your vet about it when you go in next week. Best of luck! |

| doggie smiles Kissy ended up with only 4 front teeth on the top but her bottom canines fit perfectly and go in front of her top canines. If you don't make room for the canines, they will push out and get bowed out like a bulldog's. I couldn't have that in my baby girl. They did this at 4 months i believe. She is almost 6 years old so it has been a while and she has never had a problem eating...she is my porky yorkie now! Your vet will probably know of a doggie dentist in your area. They just gassed Kissy a little and pulled out her permanent teeth that were in the way. She was fine in a few hours. Princess will have to have major dental work when she is spayed. Breeders don't care about their teeth so they don't invest in getting that done. It is left up to the new owner. |

| Murfee is 3 years old and has an extra canine on the top. They are side by side. He was 2 before he lost the baby canine on the other side. My vet wanted almost a thousand dollars to remove the tooth..what with all the xrays, blood tests, etc. I decided to wait and just floss in between every once in a while. When I find a vet that doesn't charge so much I may get it removed. |

| dental work can be expensive...that is why it is best to do it when they are having something else done like spaying or neutering. The expense is in the anesthetic and the bloodwork prior to any surgery on these little guys. My vet is going to do a complete blood work count on Princess in a couple of weeks just to make sure that she can tolorate the anesthetic since that is so critical with the tiny babies. Princess is 2.5 lbs. so he has to get the anesthetic right or we could lose her. He has done my other 2 girls so i know he will do the best job possible but if there are problems with their kidneys or other organs, the anesthetic can cause serious problems. A good vet should want the protection to himself and his practice and make sure the baby can tolorate the surgery before doing it. If your yorkie baby is super tiny, i would suggest taking her to a vet that has worked on tiny yorkies before and get references. My vet also allows me to bring my babies home after they come out of the anesthetic so that they are not left alone in a cage all night long with no one there. If i wasn't able to bring them home, he was going to take them home with him just to make sure they were ok through the first night. Hope this helps! |
