| how long does Kennel Cough last? I think it was about 3 weeks ago (give or take) that i brought layla to the vet with Kennel cough... she was on anitbiotics and has DEFINITLY improved but she still coughs at night... almost wheezes... and in the morning her chest sounds very congested... she might cough once or twice during the day but it no where near as bad as she was... so how long does kennel cough take to completely go away? is this normal?? thanks! |

| From experience, Kennel cough is not something to mess around with. When I got Reese she had it, she finished the Clavamox they had her on and the vet told me that most times the dogs have to work it out of their system. Needless to say, 4 weeks and $800 later I had her at the emergency vet with pneumonia. I researched it and I think the main thing is to keep them on meds until it clears up. Clavamox is like giving them water, so make sure its a different med. My parents had a schnauzer who had it for months, with different meds and it finally went away. I think with the little ones you have to be extra careful!!! Hope this helps...good luck! |

| My little guy got Kennel Cough last September after having been boarded for a week and he was treated with antibiotics. The actual virus cleared up, BUT, the cough lingered for weeks and weeks. We did X-rays and his lungs were clear, but he still had this cough and his little chest sounded wheezy. It was especially bad at night or after he was startled by something. Many sleepness nights for mom and baby. Finding no other reason for the cough, his vet sent me to a respiratory specialist who treated it with the doggy version of hydrocodone (vicodin). It still took two visits to the specilist, but the cough gradually subsided with this drug. I ran up several hundreds of dollars in vet and medication bills on that one. It was November before he was all better.
