| Rawhide I've had several people tell me about the dangers of rawhide. Someone told me about an animal choking on it and other people have told me about the danger of the rawhide to the dogs digestive system. Toto loves to chew on this more than anything else. Can someone suggest a good alternative? He has a ton of toys, a puppy kong and some pet stages toys but he isn't nearly as interested in those things. Thanks! Andrea |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I wish I could find something to replace rawhides as well. I use to give them greenies until they said they were causing intestinal blockages, then I switched to Healthy edibles but they seemed to make Cali scartch and Maya to have diahrrea. Every now and then I give them a rawhide stick under close supervision and as soon as they get it to the soft satge I cut off that part. I would love t find something safe so they can enoy chewing and I can enjoy some free time.

| I know what your going through. Buddy was a very strong chewer and still is at 3yrs. I gave him a new rawhide every morning. I used the rolled kind that look like a manacotti. He had diahrea off an on. I was always taking samples to the vet thinking parasites. It took me 2yrs to realize it was the rawhide. I now give him only natural bones I purchase in the pet store. It is hard to find the ones that are not that wide around but they do have them. He chews now on them and no more problems. Also do not give them nylabone. They are not digestable and he was hospitalized for 4days from vomiting and diahrea. Vets think it was the chewed plastic from the nylabone in his intestines. That's when I went to rawhide. But that is no good either. There is not much on the market that they can just chew on without ingesting something. You can also try PixieStixs. I hear great things about them and they are digestable. You can get them from Kathryn V." Beyond Spoiled "on this site. Carol & Buddy |

| Another vote for the bully sticks or Pixie sticks as Kathryn has named them on her www.beyondspoiled.com site. If you have never tried them before, order a couple from her just to see how Toto likes them. I am willing to bet he will LOVE them!

| I have always given my dogs rawhide. When they get small, i throw them away. I have never had a problem with them, and they have never gotten an upset stomach from them. But they don't eat them very quickly, they mostly just chew. |

| I don't give mine anything that they can actually eat, to chew on. I buy femur bones cut about an inch thick. I cut off all the grissel and take out the marrow. They love them. |

| I've just started giving mine Bully Sticks, they last a long time. How many bully sticks do you think should be given per week ? And can anyone tell me what are Flossies?

| Thanks! Wow, I left that post before I went to work this morning and when I returned home there were all these great answers!!! I really appreciate all the helpful answers and I will be trying some of the suggestions. Thank you so much! P.S. JeanieK-Toto did not have any problems with rawhide either. He eats a little when he chews it but no upset stomach or diarrhea, I just got worried when I heard those stories. |
