| Desperate for advice.... I have a two year old yorkie, boy. The last few months he has been itching and scratching at his skin. He sometimes licks himself raw, and often is itching so badly it keeps us up at night. He has hair loss on his hind legs, and some on his front legs because he keeps itching. I have taken him to the vet several times and spent alot of money trying to figure out what is wrong. The vet has not been very helpful, and is not sure what it is, I have another appointment to go again this week. I am very leery of going again, because I've been a few times and still have no answers. Is there anyone who might have any advice for my little baby. Has this ever happened to anyone else, I'll take any suggestions at this point. Help! |

| Awww, poor baby It could be so many different things, but one of the main causes that I've noticed from being here is the food. What does he eat? I'd seriously cancel the vet appointment and get a second opinion. This vet has not been agressive enough, imho, and your poor baby is suffering. I hope that it can be figured out!

| I agree.....sounds awful for the poor little guy. It could be something as simple as his food but in the meantime I think I'd cancel the Vet appointment and see if there's a Dermotologist/Allergist in your area. |

| Poor baby. I would also get a second opinion. Could be many things. What kind of food does he eat? Wheat and corn can cause allergies. Try an organic food like Natural Balance Organic if nothing else is found. I would definately have blood work done. You vet is not taking this serious enough. Please go for the second opinion. Sometimes we had to take things into your own hands. Good luck. Carol & Buddy |

| you should have your Vet do a skin scrape and check for mites also. Chachi had what appeared to be an allergy problem where he was scratching so much he was losing hair. I tried changing foods, shampoos, added suppliments, got meds from the vets and he still had the problem. The vet did a skin scrape and checked for mites and he had them. After he was treated for that he was fine

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have the exact problem with Cali. I just ghad 280.00 allergy testing done to find out that she wasn't allergic to anything they tested for food and environmental. She is still scartching terribly and the meds don't help. SHe has had skin scarpes and nothing. The vet said it could be something in the house that they don't test for. So I am thinking of taking her to a dermatologist specialist. The scratching is so bad for them and drives me crazy! Hoepfully we can both get some answers.

| I agree with testing for allergies and/or mites. However, I do recommend Nutro food and Linatone supplement. You can buy the Linatone on-line at dog.com. It has made such a difference in our dogs' skin and coat. I've given it to a couple of friends who really like it also. |

| Thank You! There are all such helpful posts... I am feeding him Blue brand food, its organic, and I believe Chicken is the main ingrediant. I think you all are right, I am going to cancel that vet appointment. I just bought some oatmeal shampoo and some coat and skin supplements. I think I'll try this and see how it goes, perhaps I'll change his food as well. The vet has test for mites as well as other things, he performed a skin scrape and nothing came up. He has had blood tests done twice nothing abrormal came up, and he also had other more extensive test done, and still nothing came up! We'll see, I"ll keep you posted. THANK YOU! |

| Hi Blue is really good food! Maybe it's the chicken thats the problem though, a lot of furbabies are allergic to it! Maybe you could try the lamb formula and see if that helps? It sounds like your vet has tried a lot of stuff Is there anything more he can do? I'd call and ask before paying for another appointment, if all he can offer is a "I don't know", kwim?

| I put my furbaby on Derm-Tabs, because certain foods make her itch. I've noticed that lamb does it so far. Anyway, the very first time I gave her a half a tab, she stopped itching right away. It provides them with omega-3s and omega-6s as well as other vitamins. |

| No, no diarrehea. I cut the tabs in quarters and only give her a quarter of it since the instructions say one tab is for a 25 lb dog. |
