Opinions wanted on Grizzly Salmon Oil - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I just ordered the Grizzly salmon oil and wanted to hear people's opinion on it. Especially any side effects and how much to give. Also, how it compares to Missing link. Missing Link was working pretty good for awhile but it seemed she scratched a lot on it so I thought I would try Grizzly Salmon. Thanks

I am also wondering about this. All my dogs are on the missing link. My yorkie is doing ok on it but my lab still has really bad dandruff. They have been on the missing link for about 3 weeks. I am wondering if the dose they recieve has enough omega fatty acid in it. Hannah only gets 1/4 tsp and Diesel only gets 1/2 tsp according to their weight. Jake my big golden retriver gets the regular dose of 1 tbs and he is doing great. Maybe we can supplement the grizzly salmon oil with the missing link for the extra omega fatty acids...

. I want to continue with the missing link though since it has alot of good stuff in there.

I just started Hootie and Hobbs on it a week ago. My lab is too young to be on it yet. I will start him on it when he turns 6 months old. The Missing Link worked for me for awhile, but Hobbs was still having dry, flaky skin and was itching alot. After some research, I decided to get all my dogs on a food that contains no wheat or wheat derivatives (barley & rye), corn, soy, or dairy and I also got them off Missing LInk and on Salmon Oil. I also eliminated all treats that had nasty ingredients like the ones listed above. I have them on Innova Evo treats, which are the only treats I have found that are GRAIN FREE. I can already tell a difference in Hobbs' skin. I am pleased with the results I am seeing.

Patti, are you still feeding Cali the Ceasers? There is this new canned food that Wellness has put out called Ninety-Fiver Percent Chicken, and it is just that...95% Chicken. I mix it with thier hard food and Hootie and Hobbs LOVE the stuff. It is also grain free. If Cali is itching, it might be worth checking out. Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks so much for the info. I feed her 1/4 tin of Cesar a day and 1 meal of chicken I make but she is getting worse. I will try the wellness and read the article. I will also get those treats.

As long as you aren't giving her too much, I think it'll be fine. She is probably so tiny so she only needs a tiny little bitl

Our new lab is doing great! He is too rough with our little female, but he and our male yorkie get along great. I don't know WHAT they will do as Lamar gets bigger. Right now they are the same size, except Lamar is ALOT heavier.

Your baby needs fatty acids. Sources of essential fatty acids include linoleic acid (omegs-6) is found in safflower, sunflower, corn, evening primrose, and borage oils. It is also found in poultry fat and pork fat (not much in beef or butter).
Linolenic acid (omega-3) include fish oils (especially cold-water fish such as salmon, mackerel, halibut, and herring). They are also found in canola and flaz oils, flaz seeds, walnuts, soybeans, and freshly ground wheat germ.
Dried beans (great northern, kidney, navy, and soybeans) are inexpensive sources of both omega-6 and omega-3 essential fatty acids.
Certain fish are very high in omega-6 and omega-3, and the body can usually convert the fatty acids from fish more easily than from other sources. Good choices, in addition to those mentioned above, are sardines, herring, lake tgrout, and albacore tuna.

Your choice, but I don't think the missing link has omega-6 fatty acids which are even more important than omega-3, even though they should have both.

I haven't tried it but do swear by the missing link. I have given Bobbi a full teaspoon since he was 12 weeks old. He is now 6 months and a little over 3lbs and still on his full teaspoon of missing link. I also pop a fish oil capsule on a teaspoon of cottage cheese for extra omega fatty acids.

I am quite content with the way his coat is turning out. My vet gave me the okay on the full teaspoon so that is what I feed. I think that anything LESS would be worthless.
