| Gina has bad breath I wonder if anybody has some explanation for me. Gina, my 10 month old baby, has bad breath. At 6 months of age, I noticed that she had really bad breath. On inspection, I found that her baby teeth had not fallen out (the whole set) and she had two sets. I immediately took her to my vet, for this, and also made him aware of the bad breath. She was taken into surgery, and had all of her baby teeth extracted. My vet said that the bad breath was being caused by the food being lodged between the two sets of teeth. He did the necessary and she came home with "rose" breath. It's now 4 months later, and I've noticed that her bad breath is back again!! I inspect her mouth on a regular basis, and there are no signs of red gums, swolen gums, tartar build up, bad teeth etc. I know that chlorophyll tablets can assist humans in curbing bad breath. If there is no dental reason for this problem, do you think I can use the chlorophyll tables on her. Would they cause her any harm? She is such a loving baby, and all she wants to do is kiss me, but needless to say I'm bowled over every time. Any suggestions?

| I noticed that Trea had bad breath after having her baby teeth taking out too, but what I started doing is brushing her teeth every other day and it sure helps.

| Thanks for your response, but how on earth do you get it right? I've tried brusing Gina's teath, but she fights me all the way. It's amazing how much strength a 4lb Yorkie has!! I have tried all sorts of tooth brushes. (short handle / long handle / finger brushes) but to no avail. She has no problem with the toothpaste, and is happy to lick it off the brush, but heaven forbid I should try to start brushing. Will it help at all even if I just put the paste on my finger, and rub it on her teeth?

There are rubber finger tooth brushes that you can purchase at Pet Smart, but I'm sure you've already tried....yorkies are such lil toots when you're dealing with their mouths and feet. You might try a strip of gauze.

| There are drops that you put in their water that treat bad breath. Also, there is petzlife spray and gel. I would NOT use the chlorophyll tabs.

| I started Tink on brushing by using a finger cot with the toothpaste on it. Just rub as much of her little mouth as she'll let you. Gradually work your way each day to finally rubbing the teeth. Then you can either switch to a brush or get a rubber finger tooth cleaner that has nubs all over it. Works pretty well. Anything that you can do is better than nothing. |

| I second the PetzLife Spray and Gel... The Gel is what you Brush with.. And the Spray is super easy to use... just spray it on the teeth and it eats at the Plaque and tarter that are causing the bad breath... and the gel does the same... the brushing action just speeds up the process of removal and once the breath is good and the plaque and tarter is removed, a spray a day will keep the bad breath and plaque away! Prevention... Get rid of it... then prevent it! And save money.. buy the set! its cheaper then buying it in singles.

| I went past me vet last night to check on the capped molars, and he tells me this is not the case with Gina, and I may just be dealing with a furball that just has bad breath!! He can see no other reason for it? It's quote odd though, because the smell seems to be eminating from the back of her mouth, because if I rub her front teeth, there is no residue smell on my fingers. But if I rub her back teeth ..........WOW!! my finger really smells bad! This makeas me think that it may be a molar problem. Maybe I sould take her to another vet for a second opinion? With regards to the Petzlife, I've never heard of the product here in South Africa, but I'll do some ggogling and see if I can find it, since you all have such good things to say about it. What I have now started doing, is putting a little Petdent on my finger, and just letting her lick it off. the next step I'm now doing is rubbing the Petdent on her death, as much as she will allow me to do. Hopefully, we will progress towards a toothbrush in the not too distant future!! Thanks to everybody for all the advice.

| When Trea got her second set of teeth taken out, they did a dental scale and polish and I've noticed that her breath is MUCH better. They (Vet) recommended that I continue to brush her teeth even though she doesn't like it. I must say it's challenging at times, but that's my girl and it's all worth it. [/FONT]
