| Does your puppy sweat? Sometimes when I take Tink out of her crate in the middle of the night she is all sweaty - like damp. She hasn't soiled her crate and she just smells like she had a huge workout! I don't get it. None of my other pets have ever done that (spaniel, pom, poodle) and I didn't even know they could sweat like that. She's 16 wks. I mentioned it to my vet and he just looked at me like I had lost my mind and said "Oh, I'm sure she'll be fine mom." Ticked me off. I really like him and he's good but jeepers..... Next month, he'll get a little piece of my mind (I can't spare too much). Anyone else experience this and if so, is there anything to do about it? |

| My year-old (on Jan. 11!) boy does the same thing. I'll take him out of the crate in the morning and his blanket will be slightly damp -- no pee-pee to be found. I'm glad to hear someone else has experienced this -- I thought I was imagining things at first when I'd touch his damp bedclothes but I couldn't see or smell urine. He's been doing this since he was a little guy of three months and he's fine -- I just think he's super-snuggly in his crate and gets all warm and cozy! I don't think it's anything to worry about. I will add that I cover his crate with a pillow case, as this causes him to be quiet right away (kind of like a bird), it may be lack of ventilation also (though I do leave one end uncovered for air ciculation).

| That was a little rude of your vet. He should have given you some explanation. He knows dogs do not sweat like we do. They only sweat on the pads of their paws and their noses. We sweat to cool down, they have to pant. I don't have the answer for you but dogs do have other skin glands that produce fluids. I looked them up -- Sebaceous (produces oil) and Apocrine (is thought to produce pheromones). Maybe it has to do with them??

| I think you are getting some condensation in the crate -- is it one of those plastic types with the holes? And then if you are covering the top of it, that further inhibits circulation, and moisture is buildng up. It is sort of a "terrarium effect." The warm air (from your puppies breath and around him) rises, cools, and reverts to liquid -- dampness. I can't think that would be a good thing for your little one. Maybe switch to a plain wire cage? Or is there another location in the house that is more dry? At least stop covering the top to allow the warm air to escape as it rises.

| The same thing happened to my Yorkiepoo Kobe when we first got him. I took him over to my parents house and had him in his crate with a fleece blanket. When I went to check on him, he was covered with sweat!! Since then, instead of a fleece blanket, I placed a towel in the crate. It seems like it's more breathable and absorbent than the fleece. -lsf |

| You're right and I was wrong, it is fleece. Well, I think that may be the culprit. I'll try not putting that blanket in with her when she sleeps and see if it happens anymore. thanks. |

| Could she be licking or chewing on the blanket? Dogs don't sweat like humans do, so maybe it is those other glands that Itspuppylove was talking about That was definitly rude of your vet! Not only that, but this really is a confusing question, he should've had an answer!

| I don't think it those glands. She is neither oily nor stinky. She just smells of fresh sweat - like when you've had a good workout but you don't stink. I took the blanket out last night and she was dry this morning. Before, the blanket wasn't just a little damp, it was a lot damp, almost wet. Weird. I think I'll give the vet a call and see if he found his brain yet this week. |

| It MAY also be his saliva. My friend was telling me that what she thought was sweat was actually his saliva. This may also be it?

| Hmmm. That's a thot' I've seen her sucking in her sleep. Maybe she likes that blanket so much she was sucking on it in her sleep. It's just very confusing. |
