| Why do yorkies eat the way they do? I've been watching Lola very closely since we got her home, and she eats like a little bird! I've noticed by reading through these forums that a lot of yorkies seem to be that way. My other dogs, even my little chihuahuas, eat the majority of their food in the morning then small amounts periodically the rest of the day (I let them free feed), but Lola will literally take one little bit of food at a time and walk away from her food dish without taking any more. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get her to eat more at a time, or is it just the way they are? I even tried putting a small amount of soft food in with her dry food, but she doesn't like it. I guess as long as she stays healthy and doesn't lose weight, I won't worry about it too much. |

| I think that as long as your baby is consistently eating through out the day then it's fine. What I do with Coco when I feel like she is too distracted to remember to eat, I throw a little piece of kibble and play fetch with her. I throw it and try to outrun her to get the kibble and she quickly grabs it and eats it so I don't get it..lol..It's a fun little game we play where I throw it, then run around like a maniac shouting "MOMMY'S GONNA GET IT" and she grabs it then lays with her butt up and as I get closer she takes quicker bites to finish it.

| My boys do the SAME thing! One piece, then they walk into another room eat it and maybe go back for a second piece! I figure they are burning more calories than they are consuming, just when they are eating!! haha My boys will eat when I am in the room and they are hungry! Other than that, no, they don't eat much at all either! I go through a 5lb bag a month with 2 boys! but trust me they are not starving! |

| Mine eat better when my 2 year old grandson lays on the floor and feeds them one piece at a time. they also tend to eat what ever is spilled on the floor, so you could try putting a few on the floor. |

| Izzy does the same thing! It's kind of funny too. He will start eating and if I move to another room he will follow me. So I will escort him back to the food dish then stand there next to him. I know it seems like Im hovering but it works! Plus he doesnt care, he likes being stuck to me anyway! Or like Jeanie K said, put a few pieces on the floor by the dish. Ive done that quite a few times. Usually when I do that he will end up eating everything. Their attention span is short, you just have to get them back on track sometimes!

| Punkin is quite the opposite. She loves to eat and gobbles so fast she lets out a huge burp that echoes into her metal dish. She's such a tomboy

| I guess I'm lucky that I don't have that problem. We feed Lexus half of her daily requirement first thing in the morning before we leave for work and the second half when we are having dinner - she's a little pig and will literally lick her bowl clean within 5 minutes. We're feeding her Chicken soup and she really likes it, I think that helps for sure.

| Hopey WILL NOT eat out of a bowl... It is sooo frustrating, I have to put her food directly on the floor... LOL sometimes, I do breakdown and hand feed her, when I get worried about her not eating enough... every once in a while, the hubby can play the throw and catch game... her little tummy is so small, I guess she just doesnt require much.. d
