| Lacey won't Eat or Drink... We have a 3 month old Yorkie, who has just had a rough life (hyrnia operation @ 2 months, 3 major hypoglycemic events...) And she is not eating or drinking on her own. If left alone with food, she will starve herself (see hypoglycemic event #2 & 3). We have tried finger feeding, syringe feeding... nothing on her own power. We have been relegated to force feeding her prescription diet (A/D) with a syringe, because she won't touch anything else on her own. The only thing she is starting to eat is pasta, but only in small amounts. We have tried: A/D, Iams puppy, some dry food, Nutrical/stat, baby food, cat food... We have seen the vet about this twice. She has been de-wormed, checked for liver shunt, and given an appetite stimulant... not to mention antibiotic for her cough, meds for her diarrhea, bacteria replacement gel, and vitamins. Now, in the last 24 hours she has had diarrhea 7 times in 28 hours. This is not to mention that she has no interest in playing. Just likes to sleep and pee/poop... thats it. Any advice or thoughts? |

| Good morning. There are lots of people on here with more experience then I, but they might be out celebrating, instead of waiting for children to wake up. The search function works really well, you will find all kinds of threads about yorkie diets. A popular theme seems to be shredded cooked chicken and brown rice for them. I am too lazy to home cook for my babies, but when I make chicken they love it. There are also lots of people who recommend a little cottage cheese. I hope your baby feels better soon.

| Good Morning. I don't have any experience with this either BUT if I were you I would have her checked out again by the vet and if this vet is not sure then take her to another. Did he check for Parvo? I'm not sure where she came from but if she came from a puppymill situation there is a stronger possibility. Parvo can come from anywhere but it is especially high in a petstore or puppymill situation. Please keep us posted on how she is. Elaine |

| If she's sleeping alot and has had so much diahrea recently she's probably very dehydrated. Pete had a bout of diahrea that he just got over the other day (with antibiotics from the vet). On the first day he was very lethargic and kinda acting funny and knowing these little ones can get dehydrated so quickly I rushed to the grocery store (It was too late for the vet). I mixed a little non-flavored pedialite with his water and also force fed him some plain canned pumpkin to add some fiber. I noticed within about an hour of drinking the pedialyte water he had perked up a bunch, and the next day we started the antibiotics (he suffers from clostridia outbreaks) which cleared up the rest. Unfortunatly this wont help with the overall diagnosis for your baby but it might help the symptoms. I hope your poor baby feels better soon, Ill be thinking of her.

| I don't know anything about her size or weight, but I have heard that ones who are not eating well will sometimes try to nurse. Are their any new mothers near that may let her nurse until she gets her strength up? It doesn't have to be a Yorkie mother. I mention this because I think you said she was 3 months, but you had her at 2 months for a hernia operation (?). May have been too early for her to leave mama.

| your girl has been through a very rough patch...god knows why they did an operation on an 8 weeker, let alone let her leave her mommy so young ... Both umbilical hernias and most inguinal hernias will shrink and disappear as the puppy grows I am curious why they thought it necessary to remove it so young. I would suggest feeding this pudding receipe...it might give you a soft stool for a bit but will help pack on the weight. Pudding Recipe Mix large 4 cup size vanilla pudding ½ cup sugar 4 cups of milk 4 egg yolks Cook on low heat to pudding consistency and offer to pup at body temperature. She can eat as much as she wants. OR from scratch... mix the following in a saucepan and cook to pudding consistency. 2/3 cup sugar 6 tablespoons cornstarch ½ teas salt 4 cups milk (or one can evap milk plus equal parts water to make quart) 4 egg yolks 3 teaspoons vanilla Feed with syringe, on spoon, or let eat from bowl. I would also suggest getting Nutridrops and Benebac http://www.revivalanimal.com/product...&ss=nutridrops http://www.revivalanimal.com/product...190&ss=benebac hope this helps Happy Holidays

| Well, we got her from a pet store 3 weeks ago (I know they are not the best places, but she was soooooo adorable... it became a question "when" not "if")... So, a number of these things are choices others made that we have to live with. As for her size, she is 1.25 pounds, and I am not sure how tall. So... yea, really really skinny. Thank you all for the advice, and keep it coming. I will post updates as we have them! |

| I would try feminvstr's receipe. I know she is a fabulous breeder and her advice is welcomed by everyone. This formula has been posted many times and been successful. I have also used Gerber's baby rice cereal mixed with warm water when my Japanese Chin, chronic colitis, has a bad attack. You can dilute this with more water and use it in a syringe. It helps the diarhhea. After he accepts this for a couple of days, I add some baby chicken food from a jar. Then a few days we can move on to boiled chicken and rice which I boil in homemade (fat removed) chicken broth. I would change vet's if this is the same one who performed surgery so young on such a tiny puppy. I wish your baby all the best, sounds like a fighter. |
