Yorkie poops on couch Does anyone have any ideas on why my Yorkie poops on my couch and how to stop her from doing so? She goes out frequently enough. Thanks.

You didn't say how old your yorkie is. That does matter. Venus peed on the sofa once. It was when I first got her. Thank God, I had a carpet cleaner! I was mortified! She's now 6 months old, and has never done that since.

Maddie is a year and a half. She only does this occasionally. Despite the fact that I belive the smell has been removed I don't know what to do to break her of this habit.

| Yikes! That's tough. She doesn't poop anywhere else in the house??? I'd say, keep her off the couch If that doesn't work, try moving her food bowl to the spot where she poops for a couple of weeks. Annoying, I know, but Kirby had it in for one corner of our dining room rug, after taking it out to be professionally cleaned, we sat his food bowl there for a couple of weeks. His little brain must've clicked and realized that this was an eating spot, not a peeing spot. Good luck!

I will try keeping her off the couch. That could be difficult though. Obviously I have already tried that but she is hard to keep contained unless in her crate. She is very quick.

Jeannie, is she a fly by pooper? The number one problem w/ you ushering her off the sofa is that if she doesn't go there, she'll likely go elsewhere. Sounds like she's doing it right in front of you sometimes...do you think you're missing her subtle cues to go potty? Is she actually eliminating everything when she goes out, or just peeing? She may act like she's done and ready to come in, but I'd start discerning when she's actually done and when she *thinks* she's done and not letting her back in accordingly. If she's pooping too many times in one day, then that could indicate another issue. Either too much food; poor quality food (for her, it could be a fantastic food, just not for her needs); or an underlying medical condition. Just some thoughts.

Maddie is on a very pricey prescription food from the vet because she developes bladder stones. The vet has no idea why she does this. She definitely does not get too much to eat. She eats 1/2 cup twice a day per the vets recommendation and no treats (also per the vet). She does not do this in front of me. Usually when I am out and I come home to this mess. She used to pee on the table, chairs, chouch. Now we have the chairs turned so she can't get to the table but the couch is my main problem now. We even had a trainer come to the house and other than watching her like a hawk he had no suggestions. It's very hard to watch like a hawk when you need to make meals, clean house etc. I really would like to know why she does this and maybe then I could find an answer.

I had posted a few weeks ago about Annika suddenly pooping in my bed and what I did was put one of her favorite blankets over it (after washing the duvet cover of course) and somehow that resolved the problem HOpe that will help in Maddie's case.

Charlie was a couch pooper. He did it on our bed once too (YUCK!) Keeping him crated whenever we couldn't keep our eye on him was the best preventative measure. We also had to leave him outside longer to be sure he had done is business. He would pee and then would come right back inside not realizing he'd have to poop in 3 minutes. Does she have any kind of schedule? Charlie eats at the same time each morning and night so naturally he needs to poop at the same time each day. It's easier when they're on a schedule because then you know they need to poop before they do! I would confine her when you can't keep a close eye on her, keep her on a set feeding schedule, extend the amount of time she's outside and keep an eye on her while she's out to be sure she goes.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that they put their dog in a playpen. I have never done this and don't own one but does anyone think thats a good idea when I am not at home. Right now we just block her in the kitchen but she sometimes can get out. I would never crate her except at night. What do you think? This way if she does go, it is contained. Also she is on a schedule and even if she goes in the house, why not the floor and not the furniture.

Another idea- If she does this mostly when you're not around-TRY THESE! http://www.jefferspet.com/ssc/produc...at&dept_id=876 They're called X-Mats and work extremely well. If you're wanting to still let her roam like you are while away, then give these a shot and see what happens. And I'd get the one that has more nub coverage, otherwise w/ her petite legs (depending on how determined she is) she could just navigate through it, but I'd be awfully suprised if she would even want to. When you're not using them, to store 'em, you can simply slide them behind the sofa or underneath. And no, they're not sharp, but they are uncomfortable and effective. I can't believe that she was so out of control at one point that she actually dared to use the potty on your tables and such too! omg that's wild.

| Try the good old aluminium foil on the couch. Dogs dislike the feeling and the noise it makes. If it doesn't work, try yorkieK9trainer's suggestion.
