| How long does opened canned food last??? Hi everyone, My Momiji had a tummy ache last Sunday and vet suggested she will be on bland food for a while. (She is back to her usual playful self by Sunday night!!! She scared me to death with strange looking diaries that morning!!) So I purchased some canned food the vet suggested and feeding her since. My question is how long does the canned food last?? Since I only give her 1 table spoon full each meal, 5 times a day so the can last a long time. I still had some left but I felt that the can was opened for 4 days I decide to open a new canned food. I don't want to feed her the spoiled canned food. What is the guideline for canned food after you open and kept in the refrigerator???? Thanks!!! |

| I really can't be sure but I would not eat anything in a can after three days. Perhaps if you take it out of the can and put it in a tubberware container you can add another day or two. Hope you little one feels better. Carol & Buddy |

| Definitely no more than two days. Would YOU eat leftovers from the fridge that are more than 2 days old? (actually.. a lot of people do this, but we really shouldn't!)

| canned dog food After you open the canned dog food, remove it and put it in a container. Cans have a seam in them and when opened and exposed to air a chemical reaction takes place. Not only is it dangerous, but the food will taste tinny.

| Try and find smaller containers. That is what I have had to do. Bailey picked up a nasty virus when we were in San Francsico a few weeks ago, (not sure if from the hotel or the grass at the pier she went potty on) I had her on white rice and boiled chicken, then baby food and some dry (changed dry food from Royal Canin to Natural Choice) now natural choice wet and dry. My mom says you can freeze the wet food but I have never tried that. Sounds kinda gross.. I don't know how it would thaw out and if the nutrients would still be in there?

| Thanks!!! Momiji had relapse on her diarrhea so she is back to only bland canned food from vet. (She was doing so well until last night!!! Poor my baby,,,,,) Unfortunately what I purchase is larger size. I'll see if I can find smaller size can at the pet store today. And I'll put the food in one of those ziplock container so it won't taste like tinny!!! Thanks for the tip!!! I may try freezing the food as well. I freeze cooked rice and microwave so I can understand!!!! |

| Just like any canned products, once you opened it you need to move the unused portion to a container (plastic, glass, whatever) and store it in the fridge. It should give you a life shelf of about a week or less. Both my babies eat dry kibble mixed with wet dog food and this is what I do on a regular basis. They finish a can about 4 days so I just make sure they are stored properly so as not to get it spoiled and upset their tummy |

| Are you all saying throw out the canned food that comes in a can that you open with a can opener?? I have the one with the aluminum pull back top that you discard and then place the plastic top back on for storage. Can I keep that longer??? |
