| Spay / Neuter Repost Hi Everyone: I just posted this in the general discussion, but thought it might be a better fit for this area (or is it a thread?? I don't know) Anyway, I was wondering what the cost were for spaying / neutering for your Yorkie. I know that the anesthesia is more expensive and that because they are so small more-than-average blood work needs to be done on them. I'm also planning on microchipping and having any baby teeth pulled. If anyone has gotten all or part of this done and wouldn't mind sharing the cost estimate and (if it's not too personal) their location (I feel like San Francisco is a bit expensive), I'd really appreciate it. I'm asking this info. because even though I don't have a puppy yet, I want to budget and be aware of all of the extra first year costs: shots, spay/neuter, puppy classes, basic obedience, toys, food, etc. While I'm on the topic, does anyone have pet insurance and if so, is it worth it? Your advice and experiences are really appreciated! Thanks!! |

| Well it was $140 for the spay here and $110 for the neuter but I know California is going to be higher than that

| Lillybelle was spayed in October-Presurgery lab-liver function studies, microchip, iv fluid, anesthesia, micro chip, and 4 vials of pain medication to bring home-was $250.00. My VPI insurance paid 75.00 of that. She was going to have 1 tooth pulled-but it fell out the week before surgery. |

| cost of spay/neuter I just had my 6 mo. old baby neutered, microchipped and 1 baby tooth pulled last week. The cost was a total of $322.00. The vet charged $50.00 for the neutering, $150.00 for the anestesia (isoflourine?) I don't have the bill with me right now, but I know he also gave him 2 different kinds of pain meds while there. The surgery was done with a lazer. He has internal stitches, but surgical glue on the incision. The lazer surgery was neat because he did not have to come home with any medications to deal with. He is up and running around and you would never know he just had surgery. My vet is in Laguna Hills, CA. |

| I'm glad to know it's not going to cost thousands of dollars. A few hundred was what I'd imagined. Interesting that the nuetering / spaying is less than the anesthisia. I wouldn't have guessed that. |

| My boy is 5 months and I got a quote on his last visit. The neuter with labs, no teeth pulled and no overnight stay.........450.00. CT is the 'wealthiest state' and we pay up the ying yang for everything.

I've never left my kids overnight after a spay/nueter....when told they had to stay, I'd follow up with my usual question; do you have qualified personel on the premises 24/7, if not, I'm taking them home. That way if there's a problem I can see that they get to the Emergency Vet. That way the cost for an overnight stay is not part of the bill.

| Things sure are cheaper in Alabama! I got Venus spayed the other day, and paid right under $130. That included spay, microchipping, blood work, and lab tests. I got a 10% discount for having 2 pets too. |
