| chubby yorkie/feeding do yorkies gain a little weight in the winter months? my baby is looking a little pudgy. I am not giving her anymore food than I used to.... I usually leave her food dish with food in it, but i've been only feeding her in the morning and at night-what is a typical yorkie schedule? I guess I got nervous from when she was little and they said she could have hypoglycemia if she didnt eat every two hours, so i've left her food out for her.... what are you guys doing? do you have a schedule? |

| it's funny you mention that... i've noticed layla eating a lot more lately... i free feed her... i put about 1/4 cup of food in her dish a day.. and let her eat it as she wants... as the vet recommended.. but i've noticed lately she is eating is ALL which is SO rare for her... so i'm not sure if they put on winter weight.. she is 9 months.. so maybe she is growing?? i'd be interested to see what other people have to say! |

| I free feed with and automatic feeder so I have no clue how much mine eat. Also I have three so I would never know if one was eating more or less. I would guess that they will eat a little more in the winter to put on a little extra weight for warmth and a little less in summer though.

| Winter Insulation? Both my Adult Male & Female gain about 2 lbs. a piece during the Wintertime, they get alot heavier since they are not as active as they are in the Summertime. As soon has we get warmer weather the will run and play longer and more often, right now it's too cold so they just run in and out to use the Bathroom. I don't worry that they go from 6 & 7 lbs. to 8 & 9 lbs. I'm not such a weight fanatic b/c I know they will burn it off. They are also a bit darker in coloration during the Winter, during the Summer they are outside Sunbathing all the time....we live across the street from the Beach, they actually turn into Platinum Blonde. It's like having 2 totally different dogs depending on the time of the year. |

| I do notice that with all 3 of mine! When its soooo cold out, we don't go for as long of walks! In the summer, we can end up going for 3 -5 walks a day! And LONG walks! Now we got for a quick 10-15 minute walk! And thats it! But when its below 30 degrees out there, its too cold to be out that long! And sometimes in the summer, I notice that my babies don't eat their whole dish at all. They pick more so! HMMM>>>DOn't know for sure!

| How funny, I was thinking the same thing about my teapot, Scooter. I was starting think he is looking similar to a small pot bellied pig. I started to give him a little less food, maybe it is a wintertime thing????? |

| My Yorkie is a little rolly polly - however, when I give him a bath, and he's wet, he really isn't very big at all. Plus - my little guy has wavy hair - which really stands out and adds a lot more to his silhouette. There isn't as much to him as it looks like there is. I think dogs have somewhat different shapes - just like people do. My dog definitely was not meant to ever be tall and thin. He is shorter-legged and has a little more stalky build. I can feel his ribs!!! Carol Jean |

| Punkin has gained .3 of a pound recently - but it's due to the cold and wet weather. We didn't think to reduce her food and she's missed a some 45 min walks in the past few weeks. We are now adjusting her food amount according to her activity level - less if it's not fit for walking that day. We typically weigh Punkin every 2 - 3 weeks to make sure we are on track. It's soo easy to feed too much. I wish I could be so disciplined for myself!

| Now I don't feel so bad I took Lucy to the vet for her distemper shot in shot in Sept and then we went back on Wed for her rabies and she gained 1 3/4 pounds. I was shocked. So now she's getting a little less food and I've cut back on her treats. I wish someone would measure out my food and then I wouldn't be so fat. |
