Talking Lillie's teeth

Morning everyone! Lillie started losing her teeth over a week ago (that I noticed) She isn't very good at letting me look in her mouth..However, I got a look in there the other day and noticed she has a double row of teeth on the top..only about 4 teeth...I did notice that her baby teeth were getting a tiny bit loose...do you think they will fall out on their own when her adult teeth are all the way through? I didn't have the problem with Sadie..and never heard of it until I came to YT..

Thanks everyone!

Give her some bully sticks or flossies to chew on, too.

It seems to be working! My pup always had plenty of flossies, pig ears, rawhide and bully sticks. We play tug-o-war a few times a day too. He didn't have problems with double teeth at all.

This post made me look in Venus's mouth! She is 6 months old, and has a lot of double teeth. Wow, hope they fall out. I will be playing tug-o-war with her a lot now!

Default On the subject of teeth

My kids (7 & 8 months) still have their baby canine tooths. The older one is starting to get buildup between the baby and the adult. It was recommended that I get them pulled now. Is that approx the normal time frame for them to come out? And do most yorkies have to have them pulled rather than waiting on nature to take her course?

dont' worry too much.. it is REALLY common in small breeds to have their baby teeth stay in... i think you are lucky to make it through those months and NOT have some left over! layla had 4 pulled... the vet said it was a fast procedure (not under very long!!) and layla came home and was crunching away at her food... didn't bother her in the least.. if it wasn't for the anesthesia you'd never know she had them pulled... the bill on the other hand (not too bad.. about 100 bucks for 4 teeth)... good luck

oh i forgot to mention.. IF YOU CAN.. get them pulled when she is spayed! unfortunatly.. layla was a late bloomer with the teeth.. so when she was spayed we didn't even know she'd have teeth problems.. but kill two birds with one stone if you can!

thanks everyone...I think she has like 3 or 4 doubled on the top...I can feel they are getting loose..she does not like me putting my fingers in her mouth,...I used to give them greenies (until about several months ago when I read dogs were dying and they weren't 100% digestable) and denta delicious bones....(until the girls started throwing them up) You can tell by looking at their teeth that they REALLY need something to chew on but, I am so afraid to give them something they can break apart and choke on..I think I am going to try those flossies and see how those work...Sadie (3 yrs old today!!) had really nice teeth until I took the greenies and dental bones away,...I have to find something that will keep their teeth nice and.....to help with Little Miss Lillies tooth loss!

I just had Kasey's two "curly fangs" pulled -- they're on top, directly adjacent to her adult fangs. I guess it's not unusual that they didn't fall out, and the vet said it would've been ideal to have taken them out when she was spayed last year, but we didn't know it then.

In any case, one of the reasons we pulled them was because those crowded fangs were the one spot where she was getting food stuck. So I'm glad to have them out. She recovered quickly, and was back to her usual self by the next morning.

I've been reading on this site about various gels and liquids you can put into the dog's water or directly on her teeth to help keep them clean. Am thinking of trying them, after hearing from others on YT how helpful they've been. Here's the product: Click here: PetzLife Products Inc - Products For a Healthier Pet

You can search for more info regarding people's take on this on the YT site.

Hope this is helpful! Good luck!

Thanks! It is going to be a few hundred dollars and I wanted to make sure I wasn't acting prematurely. I would have been sad to know that the kids would have lost them a month or two later if I wasn't so overly protective.

I ordered the spray from Petzlife the other day. This forum is going to change their lives! The spray, I bought material to make belly bands, I am switching food (Iams only recieved 1 star, and here I thought I was being a good mommy), and I bought a couple of bully sticks yesterday, which they just love.

Jaxon had the double rows of teeth and the baby ones had to be removed. They took 2 when he was neutered and then 2 more later on (still don't know why they didn't just take them all at once). The flossies are great - little piggy Jaxon usually finishes one in a few hours now!!! They are his favorite chewy of all.
