| How old for Spaying? I have a female that will be 6 months Dec 11th. Is she too young to get spayed? What is the normal age to get a female spayed? I'm want to wait to see if any baby teeth need removing, but I'm so afraid she'll go into heat, while I'm waiting. I do NOT want that to happen. |

| Thank you all. I didn't know if 6 months was too young or not. I don't know how many teeth will have to be removed, but would be a good time since she'll already be out. I can see some permantent teeth coming in, but not sure what needs to come out, and what doesn't. I suppose my vet will let me know that. |

| My vet said 6-7 months. My vet prefers to wait as long as possible because Yorkies are so small. Getting it done before the first heat reduces the risk of mammary cancer. I'm with you. Gracie is 6 months and 1 week old and I am dealing with the same issue. I'm sure our babies will be fine, as were the millions that had it done before ours.

| Our vet says that it's 6 months or 2 lbs. Toto couldn't be spayed until she was a little over 8 months because it took her that long to weigh 2 lbs. but there was no heat. She also said that because she was so tiny, there was no danger for her to wait. She removed all her baby teeth that were left.

| I think around six months is a good time to consider spaying your dog. ------- But please do remember - that a dog is never too old to get spayed. So, if you have an older female that has never been spayed, you should still get it done --- for her health and to prevent cancer and other problems. The same is true for neutering........ I got my little male neutered when he was almost a year old -- to allow him more time for his baby teeth to fall out (which they did - even at 9 and 10 months) -- but son of a gun - he still had to have two pulled. The vet said these two teeth were in there so firmly that he thinks they never would have fallen out on their own. Carol Jean |

| Thank you all so much. I tried to call to get her an appointment. They are out of the office till Dec 12 I will try again then. I want to get Venus spayed first, then Adonis neutered next month. No way can I affored both at once. Thinking about microchipping while they are there too. I know Adonis has 1 tooth that needs to come out, and not really sure how many Venus will have, as she'll be 6 months Dec 11th. |
