Default Yorkie Longevity

My dog, Lady, turned 11 in April and now I find myself having horrible dreams about her death. Does anyone know the average life-span of a Yorkie (not what the sites tell us)? Do you know anyone who has had one that has lived a fairly long time? Should I be this concerned or I am just worrying too much? She's slowed down a bit in her old age, but she's as playful, bossy and alert as ever. She sleeps a little bit more, that is true.

Thanks!

I am sorry to hear that you are having such awful dreams

My mom's best friend had a yorkie, Cognac, she lived til she was 18 years old...Her eye sight was not the best best she was a spitfire til her last day

Lots puppy hugs!

Thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate hearing that story. My little girl is nuzzled up next to me, snoring and dreaming. The more I hear positive stories, the less I worry. It's weird, I got her as a gift for my college graduation (undergrad) so we've been through a lot together and I really cannot imagine not having her as my friend for the next phase of my life. It's weird, it's like they know what you are thinking and you know what they are thinking. At this point, I can look at her and know if she's thirsty, hungry, has to pee or poo or both. I know when she's happy, sad, wants a walk or to play or is bored. She even knows when I'm sad and will treat me so sweetly just when I need her to. I guess it's just weird watching my gal age. But, we all do I suppose.

Thanks again!

My Shelbie lived to a month before she would have been 15. Great health except for cataracts and bad teeth. She had kidney failure. I think you will have your baby quit a few more years, don't worry before your time. She is so cute! yorkie kisses to you and your furbaby

I'm glad to hear these things, too. I worry about my girls all of the time. They are 6 yr old littermates, very healthy, but I can't take the fact that they don't live as long as us! I can't imagine life without them! But I know we all feel like that about our furbabies. We just have to trust in
God, that He will take care of them and we will all meet again one day! That is what I believe, and I can't write about this anymore, because I can't see thru my tears!
