| As far as I know, crystals in urine are normal. If too many are present they are indicative of stones just like in humans. Has you dog had any nausea, vomiting, not eating, hematuria (bloody urine)? I am not a vet or vet tech, but from a nursing standing........this is what I know. Hope you get your answers soon! Jess

| My yorkie, Hank, who will be 5 years old the end of the year, had this problem the beginning of July. One Sunday we noticed that he was having trouble peeing. He was standing there for a very long time trying to pee and there was nothing but dribble. We noticed as he walked away that he was dribbling urine as he walked. This was early afternoon so we figured we'd call the vet first thing in the morning. During that night he had two accidents in the house which he never does and in the a.m. when we took him out, he was still just dribbling urine as he walked. We did see a reddish tinge to the urine which was alarming. He did not show signs of pain or anything like that. At the vets they took xrays and showed them to us. He had bladder stones (about three) and one at the very end of his urinary tract which was blocking the urine. The vet said that he had to have surgery to remove them right away so we left him in their hands. They called that evening and said that he was doing fine after the surgery and that they would keep him overnight and we could probably bring him home the following day (July 4). While he was there we had him neutered since he had retained testicles. We brought him home the following day. He did very well. He never messed with the incision or the stitches and healed very well. The vet had sent the stones away to be tested. After a few weeks, he finally called to let us know that they were "normal" stones that they see in these little guys lots of times. He said they could have been caused by his diet and suggested we feed him UD Science Diet. Of course they could reoccur but so far he is doing very well. Hopefully he'll never face that problem again! I hope this helps a little. The symptoms were very evident and the surgery was uncomplicated. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali had crystals in he urine several months ago. I noticed her licking herself alot and then she peed on my bed which she never has done, so i took in a urine sample and theysaid she had red cells and lots of crystals. They but her on 2 meds, 1 an antibiotic and one called Ureze to help the urinary tract. She was fine a week later when I took her for a repeat urinalysis. So far she has not had any further problems. The meds should help a lot. Keep us posted.

| The crystals are a result of letting a urinary tract infection go too long. The reason a ultrasound was mentioned was to look for stones (another product of leaving a urinary tract infection untreated). If this is a one time occurence then most likely the meds will clear it up. If UTI's become a chronic problem you will have to keep a close eye on her and have her tested regularly so it doesn't progress to crystals and stones. You can buy urine test strips online so you can test her urine monthly or so yourself. These are the same strips used by vets. www.thepetcheckup.com |

| Sure am praying your little one is feeling better soon. Our little girl Hope had a bad UTI a month ago and was put on antibiotics. I just took in a sample today and they said she still has a lot of crystals and want to start her on the CD diet by Hill. She has been acting fine so I too was very surprised to hear this news. We see the vet on Thurs for her annual checkup and have a lot of questions to ask. |
