| Help...my little girl is in heat!! Hey there all yorkie girlie owners. Hope someone can help me. My little Izzie has just started her first season and is bleeding quite a bit. How long is the blood loss likely to go on for. I have got a large sock and cut some holes and she is currently wearing it like a nappy. I thought this was better than having her shut in the kitchen on her own. Just want to know how long must she suffer the embarisment of a sock on her bum!!???

The 1st week and last week are light the middle week is heavy. But the 1st time should be hardly anything. Petco and Petsmart as well as other Pet stores have panties with velcro fasteners for them. I use Vons pantyliners instead of buying the pads at the stores, there cheaper. Good luck

As a breeder my females are at least 18months old. Yorkies are toy dogs, it takes them longer to mature and grow. When breeding them at a younger age, you are compromising their health, coat quality and calcium in their bones. My females are 18 months for that reason. When ready to breed between the 12 - 14 days of cycle are commonly the best time to breed. Do understand some females are different. A vet can assist you with a test to determine her highest point of fertility. As I said above, if this is her 1st heat, let her grow up first.

| I hope no one got the wrong idea. I DO NOT want to breed from her. i bought her some pants with velcro on the sides. Just wanted to know how long she would bleed for as i am trying to keep my little boy from playing too much with her at the moment. She is definately getting spayed, but our vet said that due to her size he would rather do it after her first season. So when she is in the clear i am going to get both my girls spayed at the same time so that i can keep them both quiet and reco-operating together. Neither of my girls will be bred from, but i have only had boys before so this is a new issue for us to deal with. So many thanks for the info. lol xx

| for a baby girl on her period I have a female who is currently in her third cycle and i've used the velcro diapers with pads, only to be washing them constantly! Then I found a diaper at my house from when one of my human babies was little. I tried putting it on her and wallaaa! Here's how it works: -Get a "human" baby diaper in her pounds (or maybe one size up for comfort) -Cut a slit in the FRONT of the diaper below the pretty belt line -Put it on her backwards, so the stickys are on her back and her tale is through the slit you cut, and wallaaa! You have yourself not only a sanitary napkin, but a chastity belt as well. Better yet, when she soils it, just toss it and put on a new one! The only problems are that you need to keep her hair groomed around the waist, as matting may occur, and if she has a bm in it, it will stick to her bottom. This is not the worst thing though, as a gentle warm washing seems to be to Zoe's liking during this time. Try it! Also, just use a cheap diaper, they are thinner and you don't need much. Hope this helps, it sure works for us.
